  • The Purge, but for street racing?

  • sharpens machete eagerly

  • I really like killing invasive plants. I think that's probably my most niche passion. Like when I have some free time I'll just go into the woods behind my house and cut down wisteria, ivy, Chinese holly.... I just find it extremely satisfying idk. I love the idea that I'm clearing out space for native plants (and in turn native animals) to grow.

  • Tbh I don't think there's anything surprising about something so adrenaline-filled being addictive! Sounds like a really fun hobby.

  • Well, in theory it's the responsibility of the banks to not make bad loans. If private equity passes on their debt to the company they bought, and then that company goes bankrupt and the private equity walks away free, that's still the bank's problem and they're gonna lose a lot of money. Of course the problem is banks have a pretty bad track record about being disciplined with their loans.

  • No they arent, it's pretty imbalanced, but effectively that is what's happening.

  • I'd like to see some sources on those numbers, I couldn't find any of that when I searched.

  • I figured this would come up but you've gotta remember that drugs are expensive as hell to develop. And it just received US approval in June so it's not like they have been sitting on this making money for years.

  • That's cool, but I'm sure it broke the relationship between ip addresses. Like it would be hard to tell if 1 IP was 1 higher or lower than another/ in the same /28 subnet, etc

  • Probably cinnamon? But I love me some sweet potatoes so it's 90% for that and 10% other baking things.

  • Fun fact: before it became mass produced sugar was originally considered a spice

  • No idea, I didn't have much trouble with my galaxy though. I think most of the crap comes from the carrier versions so if they have a generic version it's not too bad.

  • Yo check out the Galaxy xcover 7. Rugged, large battery, expandable storage, headphone jack, no huge camera array, from a reputable korean company. Looking at upgrading to this phone myself although I can't bear to let go of my Galaxy s10e

  • Careful apparently the founder (Rob Braxman) is a scam artist.

  • Yea but what part of American government would you trust to restrict the speech you don't like (and only that speech)? In the UK you've got the government arresting people for protesting in support of those guys that sprayed paint into the jet engines.

  • Lemmy mods have always been just as quick to ban and remove as reddit mods, if not faster. Although I feel like it varies more widely because of all the different instances.

  • I think, in the literal sense you are correct, it is a legal form of violence. But what are you proposing? Saying you hate trans people, you don't respect them (I've never heard conservatives actually call them "subhuman" but it probably does happen) etc. is reprehensible but it's not illegal, and preventing people from saying mean things to one another is a pretty extreme form of censorship. If I make fun of someone and they later commit suicide should I be charged with a crime?

  • I don't personally feel bad that he is dead. The world is probably a better place without him in it. However, I'm disturbed by how gleeful some people are about his death. It shows how callous and radicalized people have become. I know a lot of people will jump in and say it's rhe right's fault things have gotten so radicalized, but that's missing the point. Taking a life should never be easy.

I mean, sure, it's mostly edgy people talking tough online. Give them Charlie Kirk in a dark alleyway and hand them a gun and 99% of them wouldn't pull the trigger. But that social media environment does produce killers, and the kind of people it pushes over the edge tend to not be very stable and their actions tend to be pretty horrific. Probably the most famous Lemmy user to date is the man who bombed the fertility clinic. Let's hope it stays that way.
