  • I'm more talking about crappily made halfasses riddles and puzzles that require huge leaps of logic to the point that random brute force is just as valid a solution.

    Like the stuff from NES/SNES days. Not actually a puzzle, but just random sequences of seemingly unrelated triggers. Castlevania II comes to mind as a quick example.

    Having said that; That's a rough place to be man. Life sucks, and then you die. I've been in a similar place, and even those of us great at making friends struggle with understanding the fundamentals. You are taking actions that are proven and well understood friendship catalysts. It is not your actions making you feel this way, it is a feedback loop stemming from a combination of a lack of skill and a selection bias. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say.

    Something that helped me a lot when I had similar experiences was simply being more direct. People struggle with understanding subtly and context clues. Subtly is one of the hardest communication forms to master. You struggle with social situations. Act like a child, pretend you are writing for Netflix, and literally just full on exposition your feelings to people. "I am trying to make new friends, because I am lonely." "I would like to date you, because I like you" "I also like XYZ, can I be invited to XYZ?" Always frame it with some form of reasoning: I want X Because Y // Because Y, I want X. Yes it feels stupid, yes you will look childish, yes you will often be given very patronizing reasons why you can or can't be included, but in terms of social cues you lack both knowledge and a matured set of skills. Socially speaking you are effectively a caveman; put down the scalpel and stop trying to use nuanced surgical precision until you've mastered the basics of unga bunga with a social machete.

  • It's worse than you could possibly imagine. No, not anymore. I went back and finished a second degree last year for a small career shift, after about a 7 year gap after finishing the first (computer science).

    The first time around I was kinda butthurt that most the material was crap I already knew from experience or saw online. But there was still a focus on the fundamentals and I desperately needed help with that. 7/10 experience. Still worthwhile, albeit a little expensive for the small value gained.

    Second degree, mathematics. Because my company sucks and doesn't understand that computers and math are the same thing. Whatever,, I'm not paying for it let's do it, sister school to my old alma mater so relatively similar to what I'm expecting anyways. Didn't learn one thing new. No requirements for papers or anything beyond elementary school tier multiple choice work packets. No missed marks for poor syntax or grammar - because math isn't a language so kids don't need to be formal about it apparently. The only reason I passed is because I already knew the material. And considering the other students in my program, zero amount of learning occured. 2/10 literally the most pay 2 win experience I've ever taken part of or seen, and I played a mobile gatcha for two years. Two points because you do still factually win somewhat after paying, but we're very quickly approaching the point where one can't even do that.

    Tl;Dr - after getting two degrees and seeing the situation firsthand twice now, I can confidently say that no degree from any modern US university is a valid proof of knowledge and skill. Every single one of them is either pay2win garbage, or nepobaby pay2win garbage. And I was tricked into getting two of them! I didn't even pay for the second one, and it was still a massive scam!

  • Yes. I think it's a mediocre hack, and a better system would be Universal Basic Economic Seasons. Every season (year), everyone loses all of their liquid cash and debts and gains $100,000 of new cash for that year. Throughout the economic season you have to buy licenses and crap from the government to do business; which is the replacement for income tax and is how the government must engage with the system (since they're effectively the 'dealer' they can't engage with the system as a normal player) Then at the end of the year, we put all the richest people up on a leaderboard.

    Prevents runaway rng from allowing corrupt business to take off, capital gained in dirty ways has a definite time limit because come next cycle people will have equal capital and can avoid your gimmicks. A good businessperson wouldn't be build on one off lucky streaks, but rather true ability and skill that can be consistent repeated.

    But UBI is close enough, and it's easier to explain, and it requires significantly less market infrastructure to change.
