I'm pretty sure more than half of registered US voters have never opened a book since they graduated high school, so this tracks.
Whenever I bring up Palestine around normies, the most common response is "they have been killing each other for 2000 years" type of ahistorical nonsense.
These people aren't inherently dumb. When educated, most will adopt the moral, anti-genocide position. 40% is not enough, but it's so much higher than it was a decade ago. We are making (slow, painful) progress.
Yes the window dressing is very different, but the material reality is the same:
The Biden administration provided nearly unlimited weapons to a genocidal regime, while actively lying to the media to cover for the ongoing brutality, and vetoing many ceasefire resolutions.
The Trump administration provided nearly unlimited weapons to a genocidal regime, while actively lying to the media to cover for the ongoing brutality, and vetoing many ceasefire resolutions.
Do you ever wrestle with the moral implications of this?
If the "least-worse" option that your system produces is aiding and abetting a genocide, then the only moral option is to destroy the system.
If this is truly the reality of the American system, that genocide is unavoidable, then almost everything is justified. If the Greatest Generation were alive today there would be fascist blood in the streets.
It's kinda funny how Trump narcissistically insists on doing things differently from Biden. He stumbles around from one fantasy solution to another, and ultimately lands on the same path as Biden.
The plan to "fight to the last Ukrainian" is not a stable long term solution, and it is not the moral path. But it is the path of least resistance for the state dept and military industrial complex, so it should come as no surprise that this is the path that the US ultimately lands on.
This procedure is called a positive exchange of controls. Under normal circumstances it is a three step process:
Pilot 1: "You have the controls" Pilot 2: "I have the controls" Pilot 1: "You have the controls"
This process removes ambiguity, ensuring that both pilots are situationally aware.
According to the voice recording (VFR data), we can hear Brett James say "Jesus, take the wheel".
The VFR does not register a response from Jesus. Some have speculated that he was distracted, others say it may be a technical malfunction. Many others are speculating that he actually never existed.
Unfortunately Brett James does not follow positive exchange of controls procedure, he never confirms that Jesus has the controls, and this is a fatal mistake.
Michelle Obama only polls well because of name recognition, she's essentially a non-political figure.
What's her position on the genocide in Gaza? What's her take on universal healthcare? What's her plan for Ukraine? Would she fight for gun control? Etc etc...
Right now, people can imprint their personal beliefs onto Michelle. If she would run, she would have to clarify all of her political positions, and then her poll numbers would naturally drop.
That's an interesting subject, I sometimes wonder "is our fascism progressing faster than the Nazis?", but I haven't really come up with a good answer.
I'll stick with my "2 years" prediction though. I think a Reichstag fire moment is most likely when political tension is high, and political tension naturally peaks in the lead up to a presidential election.
I agree that there are many unproductive forms of hate. I'm not advocating for you to hate the person that hurt you.
But hate has been productive for me. With our world in decline, it is so easy to get depressed and nihilistic, sometimes I have no hope. Hate is a strong motivator to do something positive for the world.
