  • Autocorrect used to be so good. All I want is a fricking a lookup table for number of letters and with the combination of letters what the most likely options are to be.

Its been ever since they added Auto-Finish, that I think it has become so absolutely terrible. This idea that the phone can predict for you and type out your sentence for you.

A: it makes everybody the same and kills individualism B: It implies the company is stalking you enough to know you and that’s creepy and not what I want in a product I should be choosing for myself.

And now we just have the bigger version of autocomplete that now is being sold as some genius answer machine when we know the default human is most certainly not.

  • Oh agreed that this is really important. Literally he is taking a seat on a council of 100 people who are supposed to be the best and most representative of their constituents and yelling about people being nice to him. He needs to step down.

But also the comments in here are smug. Lemmy is not a place for nuance or empathy but vague superiority based on some form of intellectualism that is not owed or earned.

People just feel good about complaining about him and view it as a space to dish out their milquetoast worse. Nothing here is helpful for the real world.

  • I mean as someone that studied theoretical physics… Yeah basically.

We set up a bunch of math we expect to happen given the circumstances and then observe an incident that matches the conditions to see if it matched. It’s fun when it does and concerns people when it doesn’t but we have just reverse engineered the parts we can see and guess on the parts we can’t.
