The ASCII graphics, controls and everything about it were not appealing to me. I started playing it because of the Boatmurdered story and some friends trying to recreate that. We started playing and rotating fortresses on a random Friday night.
And once things started to click? I put way too much time into it. I'd eventually mod it and make it easier to play but I put many many hours into it.
I wouldeventually put the game down after that initial burst and then years later the steam release came, making it much more enjoyable and well... A couple thousand hours later I still keep going back to it.
Wow. You complained about a petty downvote, then responded with an insult and "I'm going to block you". Incredible cognitive dissonance here. If a silent downvote was petty, what else could be more petty?
And just to drive home my point, I'm also going to block *you *after I post this!
Conversation is such a fucking waste of time in this place.
I like to think I'm a tech savvy parent and the amount of tooth gnashing to setup and maintain child accounts is incredible. I'm convinced the foxes guarding the henhouse are using dark patterns to make parents give up.
Why can't I just get a notification on my phone saying "Hey, kiddo wants to have screen time. Approve?"
Hell, I'd love a notification saying "Kiddo started watching Mr. Blah." If I got the notification and I didn't want them watching that, I could block the video, or creator with a click. WHY ARE WE NOT AT THIS LEVEL OF CONVENIENCE?
A LOT of these concerns would go away if phones/tablets/tv's had these simple controls. Move those privacy controls into the home and MAKE them so easy a neanderthal could operate them.
If I have to *.newsocialbook.com into my router, you can bet your damn ass that "LiveLaughLoveMom<3" is going to keep demanding that someone else do it for her.
Ask politely, show a genuine interest, and don't try to undermine what they say. Also read the room if it's going into a topic that someone doesn't feel comfortable talking about and be ready to learn another day!
Not everyone is an activist though. And even those that are, they need down time sometimes. I get it's tough for those on the spectrum to understand, but in this context, let people at the table just play the fucking game.
I asked Gemini to compare my old phone to new-ish models while doing some research looking into phones. And I quote:
"The [redacted] is a dinosaur. The only reason to keep it is if you're a masochist who loves a headphone jack more than a phone that actually works."
Yeah, fuck LLM's. This phone is perfectly cromulent. It pissed me off so much I decided to not buy a new phone that day.
This! And, often it means less "chrome", (eg title bars or side panels or whatever) getting in the way.
It's not a use all the time thing, but instead a tool that is just really handy.
Network admin stuff when you need to monitor a bunch of devices, security feeds across cameras (especially when they don't combine into a single PVR system) and more.
Because some of the audience hates looking at pieces of shit every day.
If a literal pile of feces came up on your feed every day at some point wouldn't you ask people to stop posting piles of feces?
You would not be stopping for those that don't know, you'd be stopping for those that do.
Cheers!
