What would one call the act of one state sending their militia into another state against their express refusal in order to enforce laws without being under control of and indeed acting against the state's elected governor? Man, the words for that activity slip my mind right now.

    And remind me why Texans care that much about what's going on 2000 miles away from them? Ask them if their state tax dollars should be going toward sending their militia outside their state borders to clean up someone else's mess.

    Things are getting bad. I keep hoping things will cool off, but it's just not the way things are headed, is it?

  • The problem is that AI halucinates and says things that aren't true with full confidence.

    To me, saying "I used AI to answer a question" is no different than saying "I asked my neighbor. He's pretty smart and knows about these things." He might be right 95% of the time but his words should not be treated or repeated as facts without independent verificatfon.

    Or put another way, if the top result in your Google search is a reddit post, maybe look at some other sites too.

    So to this person stating that they used AI, thank you for being honest. Now we know that your info might need a little more analysis if there's any error or dispute.

    I'm not saying that we shouldn't use AI, it's an excellent tool. Just saying that we need to be mindful of what LLMs really are.

  • Not really. They just love power and attention. Vaccines became a populist issue, so they're constructing policy based on that instead of facts and science.

    Doing what their misguided base wants keeps them in power. And misguiding their base to pay attention to things other than economic policy makes it so they can use their power to further enrich themselves.

    And even when they talk about economic policy, most people don't understand that tariffs are taxes on the American people. And if they don't get that, they definitely don't understand that a trade deficit isn't a bad thing in a post-industrial society because we sell information and services that don't rely on expensive physical resources.

    And what kinds of people are fooled by that? The lesser educated. So slash budgets for schools and universities, especially those that are prominent and lean left. And slashing those budgets has already led to very significant setbacks in research of new treatments for a wide variety of ailments.

    But hey, at least that money is going to... hey, what are they gonna spend all that money on now that the government is no longer paying?

    Anyway, what I'm getting at is they don't hate us. They are using us as pawns. They are depraved and indifferent to our suffering so long as they get more money and power.

  • My favorite is when the sites just block access to IPs in those states instead of trying to comply with the laws with a message that says "Your state won't let us do business and we refuse to violate your privacy." VPNs gonna see a huge spike in purchases, and lots of angry gooners gonna start writing their representatives as their favorites sites drop off one by one.

  • Your last point is of critical importance. The populace as a whole is outgunned. Psuedo-militarized police forces and "law enforcement" organizations have us outgunned. Nobody's going out shooing unless they have nothing to lose. And right now, just about everyone still has something to lose. The goal is to keep the population comfortable enough not to riot on the streets.

    There's a reason they're targeting the peaceful working class brown people who have families and still have hope that somehow the system will work and they'll be returned to their family. Notice how they're not rolling into the ghettos and trying to clean up the latino gangs where immigrants are definitely hiding. These ICE agents are cowards and bullies who pick on the weak to make themselves feel better.

    That was actually a point that Trump sort of ran on during the elections. Getting other countries to start taking ownership for their regions and contributing to the costs of intervention, and the US withdrawing from those areas.

    But just like everything else the goon says, he only means it when it suits him. His followers do not care if what he says and does are not in agreement.
