  • That's what he wants them to do...

  • Vive le roi!

  • Still a weird timeline, even if it isn't Abrams.

  • I'm not condoning it, but he sees this his original actions as retaliation. Or purports to see this as retaliation. Sigh.

    Edit for clarity

  • First I smashed pluto, now I'm coming for uranus.

  • Whatever. You asked why I went off on what you said and I'm explaining why. You keep questioning that. If you don't get it, you're obviously obtuse. I'm not the only one who thought what you said was bad. It actually doesn't matter what you said afterwards. What you said was normalizing harassment of people who put there work out in public, and you won't admit it. You just keep saying the same thing over that that isn't what you said. I was the second person to tell you what you said was bad. Many people downvoted you. If you want another opinion, give an LLM the original comment and your response, and ask it how your response could be interpreted. It will probably tell you that you were normalizing harassment.

  • I’m sorry is this argument hinging on our disagreeing about the term “shit take”?

You tell me. I've explained what it sounds like you're saying to the rest of us.

  • So a shit take is a public harassment?

In the context of the comment you were responding to? Yes!

Count your downvotes dude. Who is arguing in bad faith? I think you should take a second and go back and read the thread from the beginning from the mindset of someone who doesn't know what's going on in your head.

In case it isn't clear, it sounds like you're belittling harassment to what you want to call a "shit take", and that you think that harassment is basically the fault of the harrassee for doing whatever they do in "public". Maybe that isn't what you meant, but to the rest of us, that's what you said.

  • You:

I mean at the end of the day if you don’t want people to come at you with their shit takes you shouldn’t put your stuff out for the public to see. That is also a choice.

  • Already did, see above.

  • I want you to explain how you came the conclusion that I said this harassment was ok when I unequivocally and clearly said it wasn’t.

I already told you. You said the act of being a public figure means you are inviting harassment. If you don't understand how this normalizes harassment, I don't think there's much else to say.

Do you read comments before you respond?

Allow me to quote myself where I a) showed that I read your comment, and b) anticipated your response:

And don't fucking tell me you're not saying it's okay, but public figures should "expect it". No. Full stop. Fuck that. By saying they should expect it you're fucking normalizing it and saying it's okay.

You can't say public figures should expect harassment and are inviting it and then say people who harass them are not absolved. You are absolving them by saying it's expected and invited.

  • The act of streaming means you’re using a megaphone. You’re deliberately and intentionally inviting the public.

"Using a megaphone" implies he was trying to push an agenda. Being a public figure/entertainer is not well described by the phrase "using a megaphone."

He's deliberately and intentionally inviting the public, yes... to be fucking entertained while he streams a video game. He's not trying to teach them anything, or convince them of anything, or push an agenda.

He had people come into his stream and start talking racist shit and he shut it down. In no way does he have to put up with it just because he is a public figure.

I mean at the end of the day if you don’t want people to come at you with their shit takes you shouldn’t put your stuff out for the public to see. That is also a choice.

Do you even fucking hear yourself? Saying that being a public figure means you're deliberately asking for harassment and abuse is fucking insane! What the fuck is wrong with you or anyone else who thinks it's okay to hurl abuse at someone just because they're a fucking public figure. And don't fucking tell me you're not saying it's okay, but public figures should "expect it". No. Full stop. Fuck that. By saying they should expect it you're fucking normalizing it and saying it's okay. That's a choice you're making, and it's frankly disgusting.

  • I was going to say this is good for Canada, but part of the draw to bring engineers here is the path to the H1B. If there is no H1B end-game, maybe they won't bring them to Canada either.

That said, we have some sizeable offices already established here, so maybe there is still incentive.

  • Uninflammable

  • Or, tear down the Canadian side and leave a gaping hole?

How has it come to this? Fuck.

  • Growing up I always learned (I think) the "insert missing text" symbol was shaped like the one in the pic, like a caret symbol.

The odd thing is I also remember the caret and inserted word being at the top like in OP's image, but style guides I can find now show the caret at the bottom and the inserted text at the top.

    https://www.csuchico.edu/style-guide/guidelines/copy-editing-marks.shtml#%3A%7E%3Atext=A+caret+shows+where+an%2Coften+written+in+the+margin.

    https://books.byui.edu/fhgen_110_textbook_/chapter_16_deciphering_elements_of_handwritten_records#%3A%7E%3Atext=are+shown+here%3A-%2CInserted+Words%2Cadded+on+the+line+ above (search for caret)

    https://grammarist.com/editing/proofreading-editing-marks-symbols/

Wikipedia seems to indicate using a downward facing caret, or a caret with an extra upward arm https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caret_(proofreading)

    TIL!

All that to say the formatting of OP's pic, no matter the direction of the arrow/caret, makes it hard to read. A little "don't dead open inside" or something.

Edit to add: This one shows it the way I remember it https://dmlfnsgrade9isawesome.weebly.com/editing1.html

  • 30 minutes? You need to know when to give up buddy. It's especially fucking rude on an airplane where there are lots of people and limited bathrooms. And security concerns...

That said, when you open the door and you see the dude is actually sitting on the can with his pants down - and not up to something nefarious - maybe you don't drag him out?

Then we have the cops, need I say more?

    Jeez, assholes all around.
