  • No, I’m “spouting theories” about fixing MY stuff. Not YOUR stuff.

    I didn’t invalidate anyone. You’re invalidating me.

I don’t know what I have. And YOU don’t know what I have because you’re not my therapist. So stop acting like you know better.

The rules say that talking about other mental issues is allowed, and that gate keeping is forbidden. Seems to me like you’re wrong about what this forum is for. And you’re doing one using it incorrectly.

Not every thread needs to be about you, you can just let this one go by.

  • I’m hoping I didn’t have “true” ADHD and that’s why I’m able to fix it.

And I did say I’ll try to keep uninformed speculation down to a minimum so I’ll put it this way.

The same TikToker that talked about the “might as well principle”, also had a motto of “follow the dopamine”. That particular advice, I entirely rejected. I am 100% convinced that if I followed that advice I could never have made any progress and my condition would have become far worse. If you embrace using 200% of your brain power on your hyperfocus activities, you’ll have nothing left for all your other activities.

Obviously, almost by definition, if you have “true” ADHD, then your issue isn’t caused by a simple imbalance of priorities that can fixed just by balancing your priorities. But I will say that the symptoms sure as hell look identical to me.

I’m not trying to suggest that there’s no such thing is “true” ADHD. What I am trying to suggest is that there is such a thing as something that looks a hell of a lot like ADHD and that is almost as problematic to your life as ADHD with just one exception: This particular issue can be fixed through the right techniques (but willpower alone is not enough).

But I did take note of your comment that it tends to just come back in a different form. And if it does, I’ll finally bite the bullet and seek professional help.
