    What's the best thing

  • I came in here for this. Thank you, kind stranger with distinguished cinematic taste.

  • orthodontic sneakers

How does your footwear straighten your teeth? :D

  • That fucking guy's archetype brings about unions. Or he gets dragged out in the middle of the night and beaten to death in front of his family. I don't know what it is about the maritime community, but it sure does attract a disproportionate amount of grifters, scammers, total jerkwads.

  • The first hazard to my pans is clunking around while at sea. This is mitigable by putting a cloth in the pan to protect it from other pans. My partner made a bag to hold our ceramic pan. But then the bag got nasty moldy, as porous things always do when sitting in a compartment on a boat. Then our silicone spatula wore out, like they invariably do; I've had the same stainless cooking utensils for going on 30 years. The ceramic pan was given away at our next port.

And ceramic pans still wear out with use, regardless of the level of care. They just last a bit longer than traditional non-silicon nonstick pans.

  • Carbon steel FTW. I have a hand-hammered carbon steel wok (as well as one carbon steel knife). I live on a sailboat which means salt air. These two pieces of carbon steel perform so well that I'm willing to accept their higher maintenance "costs" (cost, in the effort context).

  • Some people, like me, can't possibly keep non-stick pans safe. I live on a sailboat, and the effort to keep non-stick pans (even ceramic) safe from damage is disproportionate to the advantages. Also, I am away from resupply for long periods of time. If my pan gets damaged, I can't just hop down to the store to replace it.

  • Right there with ya; sometimes elbow grease is required. But for things like crispy, cheesy tteok, I want the crispy parts to stay on the food. Once the crust forms in the pan, no other food is going to crisp up.

  • I love how Teflon pans perform. However, some people, like me, can't possibly keep non-stick pans safe. There are other cases, such as people who own birds. Overheating Teflon pans can result in PTFE toxicity in birds.

  • No tinfoil hattery for me. I love how Teflon pans perform. Some people, like me, can't possibly keep non-stick pans safe. • "Active suspension." "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." But what would I know? I'm just an engineer. But I'm all for technology that improves the ride without resorting to, ya know, suspension.

  • I love Innuendo Studio's stuff. Such a bummer that he's most likely quitting.

  • In defense of OP and this phenomenon in general, it's super difficult to fully analyze a system of which one is part. So yeah, this is why we see effective life coaches whose own lives are a shitshow. Compounding that difficulty are the emotional attachments we have to specific outcomes of a given situation. Mark Manson goes into this in humorous fashion in "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck."

  • Maaan... short, quippy, and wrong. Also, super insulting to teachers.

I think this tired old saw keeps getting regurgitated when people really want to apply Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is shit. To state that another way, for just about anything, any attribute , only 10% of the population is acceptable.

The one case where the "those who cannot do" seriously applies is "Those who can no longer do, could maybe now teach." Also: build, practice, mentor. This is a natural progression for expertise and passing on your knowledge.

  • What you propose is simple (as in simplistic), but far from easy. Content moderation at scale is extremely difficult, if not impossible. See "Masnick's Impossibility Theorem."

Also, deplatforming bigots is difficult and ineffective:

  • Most benthic life (by number) start as tiny, motile creatures. Screens would reduce head pressure and require maintenance. Barnacles of all kinds, as an example critter, settle on everything to which they can adhere. I'm guessing the engineers considered these complications since there have been past power project failures because of sea life. I wish the article went into those mitigations. If it's somehow a non-issue by nature of the design, my curiosity is even more piqued.

  • Not a game per se, "Hugs and Kisses." My cat had to go on a special diet for a few months. I put down her morning food, and she balked at the change. I was leaving for work and feeling like I should stick with her for the day. So I grabbed her, gave her a kiss on the head and, in a silly voice, said "Hugs and kisses, HUGS AND KISSES!" I put her down and she ate her food.

From that point forward, she wouldn't eat her food unless I did the hugs and kisses thing. It had to be the full dance, the same voice, or she wouldn't eat.
