Yeah its essentially about wage slavery, classism, and the injustices of capitalism, but its immediate impact on society was creating higher cleanliness standards in the meat-packing industry
I read Kingdom of Fear in high school and then he offed himself before I graduated. I owe a good chunk of my political beliefs to a guy who I originally just thought was cool because he talked about doing mescaline. This is my favorite quote actually:
"“We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world—a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us. . . . No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we’ll kill you.
Well, shit on that dumbness. George W. Bush does not speak for me or my son or my mother or my friends or the people I respect in this world. We didn’t vote for these cheap, greedy little killers who speak for America today—and we will not vote for them again in 2002. Or 2004. Or ever.
Who does vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush?
They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill removed. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us—they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis.
And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them.”
They keep losing elections, blaming leftists for it, then putting up candidates who alienate leftists, and then yelling at leftists for not supporting their candidates. Like a never-ending cycle.
"Budget-Chicken’s offending Reddit post was on the r/RioGrandeValley channel. Titled “Join me in protest against ICE,” the post is just a few sentences long, calling on “neighbors, family and community” to “be witnesses and to spread awareness” by protesting a Border Patrol station."
"The Rio Grande Valley Sector Operations Center issued the following warning to its agents: “It is recommended that all agents wear their ballistic armor, utilize long arms, and if possible, work in groups.”"
Seems like they go through an awful lot of effort to justify their own insane overreactions to simple calls for action. They treat everything like an imminent terrorist threat anyway, so why even bother with writing the report? You just end up with millions of analyses detailing people's Reddit histories. Great use of resources...
The Global North has for centuries used the impoverished Global South as a dumping ground for its pollution, its trash, its most exploitative and unpleasant labor, and now its undercurrent of psychological damage. The history of capitalism is just inventing new terrors to inflict upon the poorest people in the world.
It's why I love the song "Dead Men Don'tremoved" even though I'm a man. If you don't feel a visceral rage towards these people, you don't really get it.
I don't really understand it, but seeing the crowd's reaction, I have to respect this man's charisma. And at the same time, condemn his incredible cowardice for not using said charisma to do ANYTHING POSITIVE. He solidified Bernie's demise by calling ever Dem candidate in the 2020 primary, he helped break an NBA strike, now he just shares Ezra Klein podcasts on Twitter. It's a disgrace really
