  • You should max out if you want to - I think it's fun! It's not really a waste of a workout session, I don't think. It is very challenging of course, perhaps not as fatiguing but still a training stimulus all things considered.

Your 1RM can be calculated somewhat accurately by your 5RM - it could be somewhere around 90% of your 1RM. I think there is little point attempting to calculate it using such information like how many sets you were able to do at 5 reps for this weight, as your rest time between sets and your personal anaerobic conditioning can affect that without making much of a difference in terms of total force generating ability.

  • If you have a barbell and weight plates to go with your squat rack then you can definitely do starting strength (or some other cool linear progression programs). I think for an able bodied adult male you would quickly "outgrow" less than a set of two 45, 25, 10, and 5 lbs weights each, and it wouldn't be much benefit to you without any weights. Used gym equipment can be found on Craigslist/fb marketplace sometimes, although you can expect to pay about a dollar a pound

  • It certainly is, but as you get stronger you might find that the workouts get longer, and splitting them up into more sessions is needed. I did 3 a week for years, and when I could really stick with it (and eat and sleep enough) I saw great progress. Although training 6-7 times a week saw the best progress.

  • Imagine the massive effort and undertaking of repairing the infrastructure of the USSR following WWII... all those people from the top to the bottom working in concert with a plan that ultimately housed, fed, clothed, and educated millions of people (not to mention provided them with electricity!)
