  • I really dislike high magic systems. I used to break campaigns with cantrips, much less higher level spells. DCC at least has the tendency to scare casters into not using their spells for fear of becoming revolting abominations. I homebrew that into other even more risky consequences like attracting the attention of something really awful. Average NPCs also treat casters as terrifying objects of hatred. Fun times. I also love subverting the murderhoboism tendency of players in various ways. Legit traumatized a group of players when they laid waste to a group of goblins and realized they were just marginalized, oppressed, poor, starving people trying to feed their families by stealing chickens. And the feudal lords get the top slot as always the most treacherous, manipulative, greedy baddies. Doin’ my part to rehabilitate the underlying stank ass biological essentialist Gygaxian bullshit. That garbage has irritated me since the 80s. Racialist fuckface stole all the credit for D&D from Dave anyway. Sorry for the rant out of nowhere, lol.

  • Sadly it’s the only real form of socialism in the US. That’s how they lure the kids in. Housing, clothing, healthcare, education, food. All taken care of. Fucking tragic really. With the utter lack of class consciousness and the propagandized world views that exist in the country it’s easy to sign up and feel comfortable and justified for a full 20 year career. Then they can go around and say they were in such and such branch and 99% of the time hear “Thank you for your service.” in reply. It’s like some nationalistic necromantic incantation.

  • Slightly off topic but I am somewhat curious to see how they twist the little blue commies to suit a capitalist narrative since Peyo is long dead. I remember away back when my young friend’s ultra Christian mom forbade him to watch the Smurfs because they were “Satanic” and “promoted the occult”. She would have lost it knowing that I played D&D (this was during the height of the Satanic Panic) LOL. She completely missed the fact they were communists and Papa Smurf was basically cartoon Karl Marx (maximum cold war era too). Too bad the antisemitic and sexist tropes tarnish the whole collectivism angle. I bet his mom would have approved of THOSE parts though. Ahh, memories.
