  • Yes, that's what I just said.

  • Well I was sort of focused on one part, but it was like half of the post so I thought it was fair enough. I think I'm one of the few people here that uses iodéOS and has been involved in that community (forums, Matrix, etc) so I thought that might offer something different to the discussion as well. The first half about the French state is probably true though, they have been conflating privacy with criminal activities recently and using it as justification to encroach on civil liberties (see their attempts to backdoor Signal).

  • ?

  • If you use Android you can just export your subscriptions and import them into a third party app like Grayjay or NewPipe. There is no reason to use the YouTube app or even remain logged into an account, unless you absolutely need to watch age-gated material.

  • I had the razr 40 for about 18 months and Motorola consistently failed to deliver updates on time and match their promise. All they had to do was push out an update every 2 months and they couldn't do it, I'd go like 3 to 4 months without an update then get 2 in a fortnight. I thought it was pathetic for what was a relatively expensive phone from a relatively large company so I gave up and sold it. You would probably have a better experience with an Ultra, but I wouldn't recommend Motorola if you care about timely updates. They just aren't reliable at all in my experience.

  • Yet another mention of iodéOS by GrapheneOS without any evidence/explanation provided. They lump them in with CalyxOS and /e/OS every time yet never actually go into detail. It's quite funny from my perspective, because I have been following the iodéOS project for several years and no one there gives a fuck about GrapheneOS. Other than LineageOS, they barely talk about other ROMs at all. It's a completely one-sided, fake drama that the people behind GrapheneOS just seem to have invented in their heads overnight.

  • It's an issue upfront, but if the phone is pretty close to perfect then I'd use it long enough to justify the price. I used my Note 9 for a long time because it retained all those features whilst other models were losing them.

  • This sentence buried in Gmail's settings seems to imply it's what is happening by default:

Even if you turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet, some smart features with individual on and off settings are still available. These features don't use opted-out user data to improve the models that power them.

  • This thread is about activating Windows, not installing it. As I suspected, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

  • My brother and I chat about every episode when a new season comes out (sometimes we'll watch them together too), and I got my partner into it earlier this year. I think most of my friends watch it, but as I said the longer release cycle means it's not like a rolling "water cooler" discussion for us. It goes away for a while and we'll get into other things and then as it gets closer to a new season the hype will start to build again and we'll all be really into it for a few months.

Depending on your social media usage, it could also be that you just aren't seeing the big online "fandom" that exists for the show. For example, there are some huge and very active communities on reddit that regularly talk about this show, but if you're only using Lemmy then perhaps you haven't come across that discussion.

  • I'd also recommend checking out RTINGS. They have a pretty comprehensive testing methodology that they apply to all models they review, and they also pay for all review models themselves to avoid any potential conflict of interest. They score on a 100 point scale for lots of different things (brightness, black level, colour, suitability for gaming, suitability for sport, etc) so if there are specific things you're interested in you can quickly compare different models and get a good idea of their relative strengths and weaknesses.

  • Could it possibly be the biannual release date (which we are in the middle of currently) that is contributing to this illusion? For comparison, Game of Thrones had an annual release release cycle until the final season. Biannual releases are becoming more common these days so it's quite normal for TV series to fade in and out of the collective public consciousness. That shouldn't be confused for people not watching or enjoying this show, though. It is very popular and I have friends and family who are very into it when a new season eventually rolls around.

  • It has nearly 500,000 ratings on IMDB at an average of 8.3/10. Not only is that very high, it's also more ratings than most TV shows that are discussed here. I'm not sure where you've got this idea that no one is watching this show from.

  • I've been using Ubuntu on multiple PCs for years. If you think installing and learning a beginner-friendly distro is quicker or easier than running a massgrave script then you are genuinely clueless.

  • Haven't tried what...?

  • ...?

  • I always feel a bit bad for actors that put a lot of time into these multi-season shows only for them to get cancelled. Like I'm sure they get paid well, but money isn't everything for someone in the creative arts industry. Pike and others would have put quite a lot of time into developing their characters and it would be frustrating not to get closure, not to mention they might have missed out on other opportunities due to scheduling conflicts.

  • Okay, but what is the solution? I see a lot of whining from consumers about how expensive and enshittified everything is, yet very few people seem to be willing to donate to/pay for the few alternatives that exist. They vote for the same entrenched political parties in their countries (or don't vote at all). They don't get involved in activist movements. Why are we expecting the system and/or the outcomes to magically change when all we are willing to contribute is crying on social media?

  • You can use this list to get a basic idea how chipsets compare to each other.
