No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would you ever call your son a disappointment?
1·28 days agoI agree thats its normal to express your emotions, but there is a difference between telling someone that they have disappointed you and telling someone that they are a disappointment.
Calling someone a disappointment implies that it is something intrinsic about the person, while saying that someone has disappointed you shows that it is something that they have done and isn’t an overarching accusation.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We make a Lemmy user union that's entire purpose is to downvote all posts that feature black text on a white background instead of white text on a black background.
5·1 month agoWas all in till I read your comment, now I gotta flip and upvote to a downvote

News@lemmy.world•90% of Prostate Cancer Tumors Contained Microplastics
2·2 months agoIf a reporter is reporting on science, scientific literacy is literally their job. Excuses like this allow reports like lions main cures dementia, or x new food is proven to make you live longer. It is explicitly the job of a reporter to know the subject they are reporting on.

World News@quokk.au•Planned US-funded baby vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau blasted by WHO
6·2 months agoOf course. If the trail is too unethical to do to Americans, just do it in Africa. No sane doctor would participate in this trial, which is why RFK is just paying a third world country to force it on their citizens.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where do you get reliable information nowadays?
1·2 months agoBooks are amazing, but i wouldn’t agree they are a source of reliable information. Yes some books have reliable information, but just because its a book doesn’t mean it can’t have misinformation or even disinformation. Books were the original source of conspiracy theories and beyond that they can’t be updated with new information.
That being said books are amazing. With a good library and a good librarian you can learn anything.

World News@lemmy.world•Canada shooting: 10 dead including suspect in attack on Tumbler Ridge high school, police sayEnglish
112·2 months agoDidn’t downvote but if it was an American school shooting I think it would be funny, it being a Canadian school shooting where they actually do gun control makes it feel distasteful

I should not have just imported that lol, completely overwhelmed my reader app
