  • The branded searched keyword are the tip of the iceberg. Every campaign auto-optimize toward people in late stage of their purche yourney. For people wha already made.the dexision, but are not ready to purchase yet. But branded keywarods are a good example. While this is most common explanation given by the agencies - agencies LOVE the branded keywords - it's not supported buy any acctually reaserch. When one is done, almost without fail, it shows that branded ads for competitors doesn't work. Who intentionally clicks on HP ads while they intentionally searched for lenovo specifically? Users are very good at ignoring those and clicking on the next one. Organic or paid. All clicks are basicly exidental and are trash. This is a "cheap" defense from non-existing threat. You compeat alomost exclusively with your own organic.

There is even a study of a company who merged with his own competitor. Both brands existed perarelly for a while, so they choose to test those assubtions. Conclusion: waste of money. But agencies will die on the hill of branded.keywords every time.

  • Yes! And we have examples natural experiments where becouse of the error advertise didn't launch in some regions... And nothing happened. And no one inside the industry is even talking like this. Bubble will burst on day and it will take entire free internet with it.

But measuring online is not that accurate as everyone portrait it to be. Long story short if you show ads to people waithing for the waiter in the restaurant than you can report that it had amazing "buying dinner conversion rate". We are getting better and that, and tools are getting better at forcing you to do it or obscure that you do it in the first place.. And it's still expensive as hell.

  • You are not entirely wrong. It's a boubble where no person involved benefits from saying "hey, is our budget too big?" It's basicly given, that any known brand have negative ROI on it's marketing, but we are all, so brainwashed with need for growrh, that that we know only one solution to decreasing results. Throw more money at it.

  • Nice try, ad.

  • This is something that bothers me. Every time something like this come up, there is a non-trivial crowd of people saying things like "no shit. In the right circle, everyone known for a long time". Often they come with specific anecdotes that should raise all the red flags.

Well, I had no idea. Not a clue. And it's not like I was not interested. I was fallowing his work, social media... live in general. He was a very close friend with a woman who was vocal about being an abuse victim. Nobody told her?

Even in the power of hindsight, when I was looking for articles or comments from the past, there was not a lot. I found like one, "there is nothing he wouldn't do to lure a goth girl" (paraphrased), that got zero traction.

If there were signs, why did we let that happen? What can I do, not to fall for something like this again?

  • Predator.

  • I'll look into it. Appreciate your time, thank you. I'm going to search "what instance would Brannan Lee Mulligan choose" and see where this get me ;) see you on the other side.

  • There is a freekonomic episode about how the easiest way to murder someone in US is to run them with your car. There is a reasonable chance you'll go free. US is so car-centric that it's a dogma that car accidents are unavoidable part of life.

So "for bike lane" seams very reductive.

There is an argument that more people will die because lack of protest like that than during those.

This hypothetically raging lunatic don't disappear when you are alone, trying to survive on the infrastructure build without any consideration that you exist. If he's a danger here, he's a danger there. Where you are alone.

(Also, where I live protest like those are coordinated with police. Why is no one protecting nor serving here?)

  • Thank you. I need to find new instance for myself because lemme.ee. can you tell me why you chose blahaj.zone? I don't want to support Russia in any way or form. It should be boycotted.

But I also think that crony capitalism will be our downfall. I try to reduce my reliance on US-based products, serviced and culture. Especially, on giants like google, disney, MS, etc. Boycotting US until they rethink they approach to allies like Canada, EU and Ukraine is also called for.

If you don't mind, what would you recommend to someone who would like their revolution with no gulags?

  • Neil Gaiman. He poisoned so much...

  • I watched it yesterday for the 2nd time (first time with my son). We laugh, we cried, we danced, we were shouting out loud and watched final battle standing on our feet. I unironically think it's an excellent sport movie.

  • Isn't this true for all protests? My understanding is that people who do them doesn't agree to live with in the constrains drawn by small number of raging lunatics with oppression tools. That's why they organize. Into masses.

  • Wait, what are you saying. There is.a.dooferent movie named "first conact"? (Google didn't help me)

  • This is my favorite movie. It's the best that was ever written about mindfulness.

  • Ser (pronounced like in "Yes, sir!")

  • Oh Man, the number of times I deleted something because of the notification on top that shift everything down... Drives me mad.

  • There is something distopian in using bilionare as the metonym.

  • Voyager @lemmy.world

  • BoycottUnitedStates @europe.pub
