HOW DARE YOU ROWLING IS LITERALLY MURDER
Yes but you can literally have “known supported hardware” without literally building a “ground up Linux machine”.
That’s cool but probably unnecessary. The vast majority of hardware works fine.
I definitely opted for an AMD GPU in my new gaming rig specifically to run Linux/ChimeraOS, and hopefully one day SteamOS.
When you get around to a new laptop, look out for one that is Linux compatible. Unfortunately many hardware OEMs don’t take the time to provide drivers for Linux, and that causes problems.
So you don’t think it’s possible for someone to support a project and simultaneously acknowledge that it doesn’t suit everyone’s use-case?
Someone buys an expensive car. They say “I cant use the railway!” Are you going to tell them they’re wrong?
Yes. Because they are.
We dont know if they live next to a railway line. They’re also heavily invested in the car and unlikely to pay out for rail tickets.
None of which indicates they “can’t use the railway”. It may not be their preferred travel method, which is fine (in the metaphorical sense), but to say they “can’t” use the railway is simply untrue.
OP said “the software and driver support isn’t there”.
Someone replied and corrected them to explain the software and driver support does in fact exist.
OP replied to say that what he actually meant was that it didn’t support the specific software and driver they wanted to use.
Seems like a perfectly reasonable conversation.
I’m lazy so here’s lazy delicious veggie tip:
Get a rice cooker. Get rice and FROZEN pre-processed (chopped) veggies. These are still very inexpensive, require no preparation, last forever in the freezer, and are actually FRESHER than “fresh” veggies, since they are picked when ripe and then flash frozen rather than picked prematurely and sprayed with a ripening agent. Your rice cooker should come with a veggie tray so you can cook the rice and veggies simultaneously. Drop them in there and fire it up. Get yourself some “simmering sauce” and heat it up in a pan for ~15 minutes and baby you got a stew goin’.
That’s the exact opposite of what most people want from an app like this.
I see a lot of people saying “but that’s how creators get paid”
And they’re not wrong. But they put themselves in this position when they uploaded their videos to servers owned by one of the worst corporations in the world, with massive privacy implications, and no alternatives.
I watch them on other platforms when they make it available.
Just disable the ads, crypto and telemetry and suddenly none of those things are a problem anymore, just like Firefox.
Sure we can but will we? No.
Twitter has only lost ~10% of it’s userbase after repeatedly abusing its own users. Reddit probably less. After everything we’ve learned about Meta, tens of millions of people signed up on day 1 to join their new service, Threads. Google Chrome still has like 80% market share.
Changing is honestly a trivial ask, but we won’t, because no one cares.
Yeah it won’t really solve it in a single city though. NYC has tons and tons of dense urban housing but still insane housing prices.
When T9 was all we had, we got real good at it.
No software updates mean they have to get it right the first time, which they always seemed to manage.
I’ve come to the realization that the phone I want is a Nokia 3310 “brick”.
uBlock isn’t going to block pop-ups that are from the website you’re visiting.
The options on Android aren’t much better
Literally every one of them is better, because none of them are running iOS. That’s my subjective opinion.
unless you go for some obscure manufacturer who won’t support the phone with updates 1 year after its life cycle.
Samsung and Google both support devices for 5 years now. Doesn’t matter how long Apple “supports” the software because they don’t support the hardware.
No man, you’re just supposed to say “Sup.” back to them and then repeat ad nauseum.
