  • I've been using FreshRSS for years, because of it's flexibility and customization options. I switched to Nextcloud News for a while, since I'm already running Nextcloud anyhow and it's convenient, but it was far too buggy and missed some quality of life features FreshRSS has.

Also, I use Capy Reader on Android and that app is just perfect, with the same flexibility, plus it lets you read articles in the app, without opening the web page.

  • I am on the latest version, and my settings appear to be correct. I also tried disabling all other plugins, but to no avail. Maybe I'll dive into it this weekend, if I feel like it.

    Thanks for responding anyhow.

  • I like the idea of having YouTube in my FreshRSS instance, but I can't get the setting correct. I selected that I only want the layout in my YouTube category, but it's still everywhere. Also, when I open a YouTube item, it looks the same as any other article. I do have a bunch of other layout related extensions enabled, so it might be because of that.

I like it, but I'll need to play with it a bit more and try to get it to work.

  • I've been using Capy Reader as a frontend for FreshRSS for a while now, and I love it. It's flexible and intuitive.

It's not useful to discover new content though, I guess you'll need a different solution for that. I usually just search a topic and RSS and try some feeds. I keep the ones I like and remove the rest.

  • I get most of my music from Bandcamp and I use Jellyfin as my streaming service. I wrote a script where I fill in the artist, album title and the download link. It then creates the relevant directories, downloads and unpacks the files and then fixes the metadata using beets with the last.fm plugin to get the genre tags. Jellyfin then does the rest.

I've been wanting change the script up, so that it creates the directories after the metadata is correct, but I'll need an evening of hyper focus for that.

  • Awesome, thank you!

  • Now I'm curious what movie this is from

  • I use Open Camera. Great app, pretty intuitive, with lots of options. The downside is, there's lots of options, so it can be annoying when you quickly want to take a picture, but the settings are all wrong for the situation.

  • This is one of the few shows where I never skip the intro. Sometimes I even rewind, because I missed either the pun on the storefront or on the van.

  • I have been using Le Chat ever since I first heard of it, a couple of months ago and I never looked back. I watched an interview and Q&A with their CEO a while ago, and I like his attitude and vision. They seem to want to work towards company specific solutions, so this step makes sense.

  • It does. I hadn't worn it in months, but I picked it up today and the time was still correct on the minute. I was checking their website and their new smart watches look like a big improvement, too. Like I said, you do get bang for your buck.

  • I bought one almost ten years ago and it's quite nice. Good for the price and if you like colorful watches, they have some great color schemes. I haven't tried their smart watches, but I have heard they're not impressive. But then again, they're cheap. They often have big discounts on their website, so you can always give it a try.

  • I use it for all kinds of stuff, a lot of it Dutch. I have feeds on general news, some tech stuff, some Gizmodo tags for topics I enjoy, guitar and music news, and daily comics. The feeds I follow have been trial and error. Some of them have way too much articles and they get annoying. At that point I remove them and look for something else.

  • I used to use Nextcloud News as well, but it stopped working for a while after a new NC version was released, some time last year. I installed FreshRSS as a temporary solution, but I never looked back. Yes, it's convenient that you don't need an extra service and that it's integrated in NC, but FreshRSS is very customizable and has a much better user experience. You can always link it to Nextcloud as an external page.

  • I second FreshRSS, but I use Readrops as Android client. Nothing beats the normal FreshRSS mobile experience though. I haven't tried Capyreader yet, but I'm gonna check it right now. Update: FreshRSS and Capy Reader it is. I'm impressed with how intuitive and customizable CR is. Thanks for the tip!

  • With both, it also matters how you store it. But like I said, (modern) cassettes are not for HiFi. If I really want to immerse myself in a record, I need the vinyl. The whole experience is just so much fun.

  • I want tot go one further and say music cassettes. Love their sound and way more compact than vinyl. Sadly, there's no good new hardware being made at the moment, although I really like my We Are Rewind player, it's far from HiFi.

  • And that's why Bandcamp exists. No DRM, whatever format you like and you support the artist.
