  • Yep, in Poland we have those locked trolleys, but more and more stores don't do that anymore, as people return the carts anyway

  • As a European it feels so surreal reading the stories of Americans not returning the shopping carts

  • I went for a summer job to The Netherlands. One of the coworkers' name was Saskia and I thought it sounded cute. Apparently this name is quite popular there, while almost unheard of in Poland. If anyone knows the name here, they either know it from The Witcher or because of Rembrandt's wife. I know it may sound weird that I picked a name after coworker, but I did not have any feelings for her and I don't even remember what she looks like. It's just the way I learned about that name and it stuck

  • I'm waiting for the Microsoft CoPilot toolbar for Word 2000

  • How do they impose it?

  • My hands are getting shaky when I consume caffeine in any form when hungry

  • No, unfortunately I don't

  • I definitely need to try doing a factory reset before spending money, but the thought of having to backup all apps, especially the FOSS ones, where I need to manually make backup for each one, makes me procrastinate doing that.

Yes, I know, if I bought a new phone, I would have to do that too, but for now I'm just evaluating my options.

As for if these are software or hardware issues. One of the issues is that the compass/GPS is going haywire. It has trouble getting a fix, even when doing eights and for like 1 minute the arrow (my position) on the map is rotating and moving all over the place. For this issue, even restart doesn't help, so it doesn't look like the software issue.

The connectivity problems… some can be fixed with a restart, some cannot. Every few minutes the internet connection drops. Sometimes it starts working again after a while, sometimes I need to restart the phone.

Oh, and the worst one — recently it just started randomly turning off during the night, so the alarm doesn't ring

  • That's good to hear

  • I've heard that OnePlus are not as good as they used to be, but I don't remember what the criticism was about. Pixel sounds good as I could finally try Graphene

  • Ugh… I'm in Poland, where the tax is always included so it's hard to compare prices with the US. I would say 1500 PLN or less, so 420 USD with taxes

  • What does the sign "Stationsgebied navigatie uit" mean? Is there some municipal navigation system that is turned off during construction?

  • Oh, it's from Sweden so the delivery costs won't kill me, thanks

  • What's a tucking clip? I can't find anything about it

  • To me, Dutch has been the easiest language to learn so far. Pretty simple grammar, similar vocabulary to English. Word order is the hardest part for me (I'm still making mistakes), the second hardest thing is the pronunciation. Pronouncing 'g' without hurting your throat can be quite tricky.

  • Dutch has a very rigid word order and when I do exercises on Duolingo I often create rhymes by accident.

My favorite Dutch rhyme is Nieuwe wegdek, langere remweg. It's very popular too, there are many signs with it. It means New road surface, longer breaking distance.

  • There are many alternative teaching methods that are usually not used in public schools e.g. democratic schools. I don't know how it is in the US, but in Poland there was not a single lesson about how to tell truth from the lies. We were always told to blindly accept that what teacher said and what was in the book. The teachers had, more often than not, problems in their life and instead of talking them through on a psychotherapy, they were acting like fucking dictators, pushing theirs own traumas onto the kids.

Schools are so that parents can leave the kids somewhere when they go to work and to accept authority without question. No wonder far-right is so strong now
