  • I've said this before but it bears repeating, Grim has known this guy personally for over a decade. This isn't an ideological lapse (not that Grim has ever been a principled Marxist). He likes the guy. That's it. He's not going to let it go, but since I don't live in Maine, I'm going to let it go. Because fuck it. What's the downside here, an imperialist bootlicker might become a US senator? I'm muting Platner posts from now on, especially since the implication in this discourse seems to be that if he had a better position on imperialism then suddenly supporting Democratic party entryism would be okay? No, it was always fucked. Mamdani is standing shoulder to shoulder with an outspoken Zionist rep today. It's a good barometer of rising class consciousness but that's all it is

  • Yeah this is some raiders of the lost ark shit, I hope IT ends up melting their faces off

  • They would if they could. I've literally seen Dem reps who's feed is just pictures of their dog

  • Without deep roots, Washington will turn him into a ghost and he won't stand for anything in the senate anyway.

This is 100% what's going to happen. The only silver lining to Platner winning would be that Susanne Collins would be gone and not replaced by the living embodiment of the Democrats' fundraising machine

  • You think Ryan Grim is manufacturing consent for fascism?

  • Shawn Fain (President of the UAW) has been pushing for every union in the country to try to set their contracts to all expire at the same time in 2028. Calling for a general strike is illegal, but every union striking on their own at the same time isn't. Not like that matters if it becomes a real threat, but it's good to see people in leadership positions organizing for real leverage

  • And here we see the mythical "South Park Communist"

All I can say is, it would be really funny if he wins

  • It's feeling increasingly like 2002-2003 to me, except the economy is somehow pre-dotcom crash. Trump standing in front of a big sign that said PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST gave big

    vibes

  • Fully agree, and I would add that most of the examples of rewriting constitutions I can think of are usually a downgrade, since the ruling class is dominant in government more often than not. Like the most likely way the US Constitution is going to be rewritten in the near term is if the GOP passes their constitutional convention bullshit in 2/3 of states

  • Constitutions aren't purely idealist, any governing organization needs a set of meta rules to help structure itself. It's a very practical technology, and the only structures that don't have them tend to be personal dictatorships of some kind (absolute monarchs and small business owners and such). Of course the Constitution is always subordinate to the collective desires of the ruling class (who can choose to ignore or distort it as needed to maintain their class position), but it can be very effective in limiting the individual desires of particular rulers (though, as we're seeing, this benefit can become ineffective over time)

  • Heresy, but still better than using a big bank. I'll allow it

  • What works for me is downloading ebooks, catching myself when I'm mindlessly scrolling, and then deliberately switching to the ebooks for my "phone time". You just need to find books that are engaging enough and make a habit of it

  • Vance is so transparently a careerist with the same gusto that Trump is so transparently corrupt. Certain voters might even misinterpret it as "honesty"

  • Don't y'all be so cynical. Obviously the CIA is working overtime to coopt this, as they do for every protest. But the fact that there are massive protests happening concurrently throughout the world is a positive indicator for revolutionary potential. Through these struggles, the people will learn through trial and error (and error, and error....) the necessity of proper organization. Eventually, a cool one will be successful, which will become the defining revolutionary model of the 21st century. Let's be honest, we don't even know exactly what that looks like yet

  • Well that's a bummer

  • I guess Hakim Jeffries is doing God's work by holding the line then

  • The bougie conservatives are afraid of their own shadow, absolutely. But I live in a Trump-leaning working class neighborhood and they do Halloween like it's 1985 (giant candy bars, zero road safety, zero COVID precautions. As God intended.)
