I think it's absolutely fair to ask someone not to use a word that you don't care for around you. The problem arises when you attempt to make that everyone's problem, not just yours.
When you can ask a specific question and get related information in the same amount of time opening the web page for documentation/"online resources" takes, why bother?
Something I don't often see discussed in these comment sections is how many companies have group purchasing agreements and contracts that supersede the price increases of tariffs.
For example, I work for a Healthcare company who is a part of a group of organizations that have an external company negotiate contracts on their behalf, flexing their power as a group to get better deals.
Goods imported still get taxed, but the prices are supposed to stay the same, but if things get to the point where operational costs completely outweigh breaking contracts, you might see things just... Stop.
Using they when you aren't specifying is fine and any indication otherwise is just virtue signaling. If someone used they despite knowing I use he/him because they don't know me well, regardless of whether or not it's stated, it's not an insult.
You aren't much more virtuous for using someone's preferred gender just as you shouldn't be demonized for not knowing someone doesn't use "traditional" gender ideology.
Seriously, all of those companies listed have various quality issues that seem to stem for poor policy and a 'profit at all cost' mentality.
Ever been to a hooters that didn't have a parking lot that was falling apart, or tables and machines that look to have been needing repairs for years? The details might not matter to every consumer, but I know I'd rather visit the restaurant that at least tries to keep up appearances.
You can't be relaxed about things on lemmy, you have to have an anger boner about anything and everything. Especially if it's what the groupthink™ has decided we have to hate here.
