  • Well, here's his twitter. He seems to be doing rather financially well. Sadly, he's a bit Tesla obsessed.

I'm from the area of TN she grew up in and it is pretty solidly middle class. Like obviously there is some higher income mixed in, but this isn't the 'beverly hills of TN' (that would be Franklin,TN).

  • I don't love the idea of the Trump administration being in charge of creating a national ID system, but this maybe the best time to make one.

If Democrats proposed a national ID database the crazy 'FEMA is coming to round us up' republicans would freak out about it. As proven with Trump sending the national guard into D.C., as long as Trump does it they don't care.

  • I don't think you can? But, you can use a space and add an equal sign sticker instead

  • Starlink satellites are in low Earth orbit. They could still cause Kessler syndrome, but aren't as much of a concern as higher orbits.

Here are some quotes regarding this from and Aerospace America article

Regarding satellite proliferation, while there are many more satellites, the company responsible for most of them, SpaceX, places its Starlink satellites in a low orbit so they can naturally deorbit relatively soon — within five or six years, per SpaceX — if they fail.

At around 400 kilometers and into the 500-km realm — home to ISS and the SpaceX Starlink satellites among others — atmospheric drag plays a major role. Dead satellites and debris usually slow and burn up in the atmosphere in just a few years. This natural cleansing process accelerates when the sun becomes more active and solar coronal mass ejections strike Earth and cause the atmosphere to swell. “In those altitudes, we can probably do a lot and we will be forgiven,” Linares says.

  • TY for the link! I started scrolling through the index, but with 621 Cogs it got a bit....daunting, I wish it had a 'most popular' or 'sort by most downloaded' option, but I understand why it doesn't.

  • This was not an issue for this plane. They replaced the entire throttle control module in 2019 and in 2023. Quoted text below is from page 6 of the preliminary report. I have bolded the relevant sentences.

The FAA issued Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) No. NM-18-33 on December 17, 2018, regarding the potential disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature. This SAIB was issued based on reports from operators of Model 737 airplanes that the fuel control switches were installed with the locking feature disengaged. The airworthiness concern was not considered an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) by the FAA. The fuel control switch design, including the locking feature, is similar on various Boeing airplane models including part number 4TL837-3D which is fitted in B787-8 aircraft VT-ANB. As per the information from Air India, the suggested inspections were not carried out as the SAIB was advisory and not mandatory. The scrutiny of maintenance records revealed that the throttle control module was replaced on VT-ANB in 2019 and 2023. However, the reason for the replacement was not linked to the fuel control switch. There has been no defect reported pertaining to the fuel control switch since 2023 on VT-ANB.

  • This has always been my concern with living in the West Coast region of the United States. I worry I'll move there and in ~10-20 years my neighbor will shoot me over a glass of water and/or my house will burn down in a forest fire. Is this unrealistic and something I shouldn't be concerned about? Probably lol.

Also as the saying goes: 'those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.' I currently live in the deep red state of TN, so although I am not worried about forest fires or running out of water, I am deeply concerned about the political climate I'm in. Also, tornadoes (some say tornado valley is moving east)and 110°F (45°C) Heat indexes that will probably kill me instead.

  • The Hockey Canada Sexual Assault Trial. The woman who was involved had the initials EM.

Some Quotes from the woman judge who presided over the case: “Although the slogan ‘believe the victim’ has become popularized of late, it has no place in a criminal trial. To approach a trial with the assumption that a complainant is telling the truth is the equivalent to imposing a presumption of guilt on the person accused of sexual assault and placing the burden on him to prove his innocence. That is antithetical to the fundamental principles of justice enshrined in our constitution.”

“On the basis of all the evidence, I find as a fact that the complainant did express she wanted to engage in sexual activity with the men by saying things like “Is someone going to f—- me” and by masturbating, the judge says.

“I accept the overwhelming evidence that E.M. was acting in a sexually forward manner by masturbating in this room full of men and asking them to engage with her. She communicated her willingness to engage in sexual activity.”

  • ah, that makes sense lol. TY!

  • I'm gonna vote no on this one

  • I always chug a beer/soda, open the top of the can using a can opener, and pour the grease into that.

NOTE: make sure all the liquid is out of the bottom of the can (maybe wipe it down with a towel) or else the grease may shoot back out

  • I would love this! I'd totally be in!

  • Here's some quotes from this CNN article:

The breakdown was caused by failures in the copper wiring that transmits information from Long Island to Philadelphia, a source told CNN.

“What we use today is copper wires. We are one of the last institutions, last businesses, that actually use copper wires,” Duffy told reporters Thursday.

“We should be using fiber, but it’s copper. We use radar from the 1970s, some of them are from the 80s… So this technology is 50 years old that our controller has used to scan the skies and keep airplanes separated from one another.”

Some controllers still use floppy disks to upload data onto computers that date to the early 1990s, according to experts.

  • I can’t imagine using the only black man in Japan at the time would lend itself to being stealthy (any race but Asian, specifically of Japanese decent, would have stood out back then), but I also haven’t played the game so I don’t know if stealth is even a mechanic in this franchise anymore.

So, my buddy has played through a good chunk of the game and according to him you play as 2 characters: The first is a woman of Japanese descent who you get the classic 'stealthy' assassins creed experience. The second is Yasuke, which he has described as playing a 'bull in a china shop' where it's all about beating the shit out of enemies and causing a ruckus.

Apparently playing as Yasuke is the most fun he has had in an assassins creed game in years.

  • Dammit! Lol

  • As an FYI, (In the United States) all modern cars will have to have some kind of screen (whether built in the mirror, on the dash, or as part of the gauge system) as all cars are required to have backup cameras as of 2018.

Starting in 2029 all cars will be required to have automatic braking technology as well.

We're never going to be able to purchase new cars that are completely dumbed down ever again, but with how many lives it will save I'd say it's worth it.

I'm glad that there are some companies that are willing to offer cars with the bare minimum of features at least. I personally would prefer having automatic windows over crank, but if someone wants to save money more power(har har) to them!

EDIT: weather vs whether Braking vs breaking

  • Samsung Galaxy Xcover 6pro has been pretty good for me. It has a headphone jack, SD card slot, and a removable battery. The specs aren't the top of the line, but as long as I'm not playing games on my phone it gets the job done.

  • Isn't this referencing some UFC fighter or something?

The BarotraumaShared/Content folder, which contains Barotrauma's art, item XMLs, sounds, and other assets, is not included in the GitHub repository. If you have a legal copy of the game, you can copy the Content folder from the game's files to BarotraumaShared/Content.
