  • Yes. Largely by the same countries who also insist Israel is conducting their war legally, but I won't try to say their points are bad. I agree with criticizing Iran, but bombing embassies is not ok by international agreement. If rules of war only apply when convenient then they are useless, diplomatic immunity is a thing and consulates are not supposed to be targets of war.

Also, switch countries - imagine if North Korea bombed the US embassy in South Korea and killed visiting Pentagon generals. The outrage would be immense and it's unlikely the world would accept the justification that North and South Korea are "technically at war" with each other and the US opposes North Korea.

  • I'm fine with criticizing both, and agree there are no "good guys". Iran is not some paragon of virtue, but then we're finding out that few nations actually are - even those that loudly claim they are.

  • Here's yesterday's UN release regarding discussion of the event. "In the ensuing discussion, many delegations asserted that any attack on diplomatic and consular premises violates the Charter of the United Nations as well as the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. They also expressed grave concern that such an incident could further intensify the regional conflict."

Then the usual countries supported/condemned Israel, but even those supporting Israel didn't say it was ok to bomb embassies.

  • I mean, yes fascists are bullies who cry when they get hit back but history isn't on the side you are picking. Israel is a far-right nation plagued by ideals of racial superiority and apartheid. They've been abusing Palestinians for many decades, creating the conditions that led to Oct. 7th (which I'm not trying to excuse, Hamas are awful). Speaking of Hamas, Netanyahu even kept Hamas in power as a matter of policy so as to divide Palestinians and keep them from statehood. Many Israelis place some blame on him for the current conflict. So you're both right and wrong.

  • Mean people are everywhere, and the separation of internet communication makes it easy to be cruel. Wave them off and and celebrate the folks who treat others well.

  • Link to the article the image is from since I don't know how to internet well enough to make the image expandable. TL:DR genetics/biology show it's complex and there are many intersex possibilities on and the gender spectrum.

  • To people who aren't sure if this should be illegal or what the big deal is: according to Harvard clinical psychiatrist and instructor Dr. Alok Kanojia (aka Dr. K from HealthyGamerGG), once non-consensual pornography (which deepfakes are classified as) is made public over half of people involved will have the urge to kill themselves. There's also extreme risk of feeling depressed, angry, anxiety, etc. The analogy given is it's like watching video the next day of yourself undergoing sex without consent as if you'd been drugged.

I'll admit I used to look at celeb deepfakes, but once I saw that video I stopped immediately and avoid it as much as I possibly can. I believe porn can be done correctly with participant protection and respect. Regarding deepfakes/revenge porn though that statistic about suicidal ideation puts it outside of healthy or ethical. Obviously I can't make that decision for others or purge the internet, but the fact that there's such regular and extreme harm for the (what I now know are) victims of non-consensual porn makes it personally immoral. Not because of religion or society but because I want my entertainment to be at minimum consensual and hopefully fun and exciting, not killing people or ruining their happiness.

I get that people say this is the new normal, but it's already resulted in trauma and will almost certainly continue to do so. Maybe even get worse as the deepfakes get more realistic.

  • To anyone who has played it - does it look a lot better than say, Witcher 3 or Elden Ring? Because in the footage and photos I'm not seeing much that explains why it's so hardware-intensive. If you told me this came out 5 years ago I'd probably believe you based off the graphics in the review I watched.

  • To be fair, also born at the right time to have a mobile phone as a convenience that allowed you to stay in touch as you went places. As opposed to a smartphone, aka voluntary shackle that keeps you indoors doom scrolling social media.

  • A 2000lb bomb "can cause high casualty events and can have a lethal fragmentation radius – an area of exposure to injury or death around the target – of up to 365 meters (about 1,198 feet), or the equivalent of 58 soccer fields in area." Israel dropped hundreds in the first month alone. The USA dropped just one ever during all the time they were fighting ISIS.

But Biden and his administration care about limiting civilian casualties. They really mean it - do you folks want another press release? I'm sure we can get more heartfelt looks and earnest words from the White House press rep about serious commitments to ethics and how they're making sure Israel is innocent of wrongdoing.

  • Possible translation: "Wings don't matter" - the only type of dinosaur (avian) to survive to present day.

  • Here's a CNN interview from almost 5 months ago (Nov. 6th) with a Doctors Without Borders US Nurse "who gives a harrowing description of what she witnessed in Gaza as she was attempting to get out of the area." In that news piece the UN Secretary General is quoted as saying that Gaza is becoming "a graveyard for children", which proved prophetic. Medical professionals have been talking about the horrific violence affecting children and other civilians since just a few weeks into the war.

None of this is new information. Israel broke the rules of war regarding collective punishment and avoiding civilian casualties immediately. In the first month they dropped hundreds of 2000lb bombs capable of killing people over 1,000 feet away. The USA dropped a 2000lb only ONCE during their years of fighting ISIS. The world's leaders have known how terrible this was for half a year now. They've simply chosen to look the other way or in many cases fully support it.

  • Way to dodge my request for evidence, and ignore the evidence I provided, in favor of repeating extremist misinformation. It's pretty clear your claims are baseless but luckily basically no one else seems to believe them either.

  • Mozart also composed a musical piece that translates to "Lick me in the arse". The text rediscovered in 1991 consists of variations of the phrase "Lick me in the arse...quickly!" over and over. I just wanted to share that given the forum's name.

  • Well, IQ scores rise over time. Smarter people realize how dumb it is to directly kill, or pay tons for the killing of, dirt poor civilians on the other side of the world. Especially for profits most of them will never, ever see.

Edit: I shouldn't make it sound as if the soldiers of WW2 were dumb though. As another comment correctly pointed out, there's a lot of difference between WW2 and at least some modern wars.

  • That's brutal because it's so fitting. Well played.

  • I guess I'll adjust my life goals to "hot cyberpunk partner in technological dystopia", because that sounds like some Bladerunner/Cyberpunk 2077 stuff.

  • So Germany is bullying and obstructing the free speech of Jews in order to protect Israel from dissenting opinion? Because that's what it sounds like. It's also kind of dumb that they are accusing Jewish Voice for Peace (an organization of primarily US Jews) of being antisemitic. No true Scotsman and all that?
