He was just a Fledditor. Living in a Lemmy woooorld.

  • And so you have beef with my habits because... I don't know. I'm still trying to connect how me using an AirBnB maybe once a year within the USA not in Tourism cities is related to giving non-citizen landowners of foreign properties money.

Are you saying because I use AirBnB at all it is benefiting that group of scalpers? That sounds like saying using ebay helps scalpers and you shouldn't ever use ebay because of that. I don't see/agree with that connection.

  • Yeah, that doesn't happen because of me. You can keep trying to shame me as an outlet for your anger from the ultra-wealthy and large businesses if that makes you feel better.

Unprofessional opinion tho, trying to make yourself feel more morally correct because you have different needs or can't access them isn't the healthiest way to express these feelings.

The average Joe is not accountable for any meaningful amount of pollution until after the private jets are prohibited. My city does what it can with local ordinance, and I do what I can to contribute to carbon neutral initiatives. Reduce has been the big focus this year. I'm thankful to have a place to bring my own bottles for soap, shampoo, laudry detergent, deodrant bars, and such.

You judge people before trying to know them and ask questions. Your assumptions hold you back.

  • Neat! I'm glad you are comfortable within your bubble.

On a different tonal note, it's very impressive you have the resources to single-handedly ruin the housing market, but choose not to. /s

I'm satisfied being well below average in CO2 contribution. I need to see new places in person, and that need serves me much better than putting all my efforts into lowering the CO2 average consumption by another -0.002 kg/year.

  • Oh yeah. Here I'm just a silly little installation wizard who contributes here attempting to be meaningful and provide conversation nuggets. In real life I'm playing that balancing act between ethics, my resources/influence, and trying to not burn out.

I've done plenty of things based off of morals without it being the "smart" or most personally beneficial decision. AirBnB just isn't one of those due to how much I can save and put towards local restaurants, bars, and tipping when I finally vacation. I also don't trust hotel corps to use my money ethically, and have used an AirBnB maybe once a year on average. I'm hoping I can have another actual vacation soon since it has been 4 years.

Also, I strongly believe that my responsibility is taking care of my wife and family first, then community/political contribution.

What about you? Where do you stay when traveling where there aren't friends or family?

  • I will never forget their Coca-Cola fudge cake.

  • Why? Because they decided not to rebrand? Sounds like you just want an excuse not to go there. You don't need one.

  • That's the struggle every day, Pooptart. Every day; and in a system that doesn't want me to.

  • Close enough I suppose. I think of them as Decree Enforcement. Nothing lawful about how they act.

  • Plus that flag was statistically likely to be made not in the USA

  • Buttknight was a really good arcade scroller shooter. The unlockable scenes weren't interractive, but actually unlocking them was a ton of fun. Short game too.

  • I'd agree with you a lot more if AirBnB wasn't a lot cheaper than any hotel or other travel accommodation. A town that relies on tourism might be different, but in the USA I save about $100 and get a more private place to stay.

  • It's like Valorant, but much bigger and even worse.

  • You have inspired me to try to find a local shoemaker.

  • ... I like your choice of nail polish.

  • Holy hell, what a comment section. I'm seeing Americans calling out Europeans for being all talk about what America is supposed to do, several people lamenting impending doom, and more blame targeting the ultra wealthy.

Our future needs to be Solarpunk and have class mobility. Do something for your community this week. The answers lie with the people that think differently than you. De-propagandize your neighbor by giving them a shared enemy. Nothing binds people together like conflict. While we're at it, encourage boxing matches between government officials. Mabne then we'll keep younger, highly motivated individuals in office.

  • That's my method. I tested a little bit when the beta phase for Google rolled out. Now I don't use any AI at all. It can be useful as a search results +, but not much else for me.

  • The AI trained on vibe coding will train future AI to be even more enshittified.

  • Ty, wasn't expecting a reply after this time, but that is very good to know.

  • And illegal gambling. The poker game is free to play, but you need to spend $20 to reserve the seat. Reservations last till you run out of chips.
