  • To hell with Microslop.

People need to have some dignity. When an OS becomes an ant-privacy ad serving platform first and foremost, it's time to ditch it!

My newest computer came with Windows 11. I ran it for a few weeks and wiped it and installed Bazzite Linux. I have had virtually no issues and honestly it's been a fantastic experience.

I do have an older laptop running Win 10 for a handful of programs that I haven't figured out how to get to work under Linux yet, but it's just a matter of time.

  • I've used jellyfin for years but never tried to remotely access it. From what I've read you pretty much have to use something like Tailscale. It's something I will probably give a shot at some point.

I have never used SSH or SFTP. I will have to look into that. I automatically assumed that to access my files remotely I would need to pay for a static IP address. I'm assuming this is not the case? I'll have to read up on it.

Thanks for the info. Time for me to dust off the raspberry pi 4 and play around with it a bit.

  • I feel like there is a step missing here. Do you mean physically take the raspberry pi and HD with you (I mean, you could but it's not terribly elegant) or are you talking about just setting it up to stream the music.

If your referring to streaming, is there a program you can recommend to easily stream it outside of you home network? I.e. access anywhere.

  • I don't like being under constant surveillance from my neighbors doorbell cameras. This is one of many excellent reasons why.

What I am going to do is use MapComplete to start labeling every house that I come across that has one of these doorbells.

Then I'll post some QR codes around town that link to the map.

Once people start seeing their homes called out on a map then perhaps some of them will feel uncomfortable with that and start to understand just why privacy matters.

  • This sounds cool but what exactly will it do and what's the purpose? What will these devices be connected to for internet? Local stores wifi and then extending it for others to use?

  • I was under the impression that Jpeg XL was written out of modern browsers due to Google pushing their image format instead or are you talking specific support with in Pixelfed app?

  • Or set up your IrDA driver for a dongle that it does not really recognize.

Settings was utterly useless for this. Long live the control panel!

  • It was an old '87 Pontiac Bonneville. It had a 350 and had some oomph. The thing was built like a tank. I loved it!

My favorite thing of all was the fact that it would automatically turn on the headlights when it was dark and this feature was called the ''Twilight Sentinel''.

I always thought it sounded like some epic fantasy novel or game.

  • Yep. I got hit with this this morning when I turned on my TV before heading work.

I thought to myself ''Well... I hadn't planned on suing you but now I'm not so sure. Lol''

Yeah. This is complete BS and has me looking at computer monitors for a suitable replacement. I went ahead and agreed to their terms and my TV still works great but when it comes time to replace it, I'll be damned if I get another Smart TV.
