  • Have you heard of the cancelled Penn and Teller video game Desert Bus?

It takes 8 hours to beat, requires your constant attention, and can't be paused. I'd say that still falls into the "possible to beat" but you could keep pushing the limits further.

What if there were 10 levels like that but you can pause between levels? Still technically possible. What about 1000 levels? That requires almost a year of active playtime, but there are pro players with that many hours in their game. Where's the limit? 10K? 50K? 500K? I don't know.

Of course, this is all just a random thought experience on what it means for a game to be possible to beat. I don't think there's an empirical way to define the boundary between possible and impossible, but we could also just restrict it to "games that have been beaten at least once by someone and are provably beatable".

Ultimately I do agree with you though. There are just too many games out there for this to be possible anyway.

  • Not in the US

  • When you plug Sonic 3 into Sonic & Knuckles, that's what Sonic 3 was intended to be. But they couldn't finish it in time, so they split them into separate games. That's why when you play Sonic 3 & Knuckles, you don't just play Sonic 3 as Knuckles, you play through both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles (as opposed to Sonic 2 where you only play through Sonic 2 levels as Knuckles).

  • I didn't really "get" Prince at first either. His biggest radio hits didn't quite click for me. But then I watched a full concert video and loved it. He was just radiating energy the entire show in a way that wasn't quite captured by the studio recordings IMO. And I think it's one thing to read that he was an incredible multi-instrumentalist versus actually watching him absolutely shred on several different instruments at different times throughout the show.

  • The one and only time I "cheated" at Elden Ring was to spawn in some DLC weapons (hand-to-hand arts and perfume bottles) for a brand new character. Not because they were overpowered but because I hadn't used them on any of my previous characters and they looked fun so I wanted to use them for a full playthrough. And they were quite fun. Better than I expected too, but certainly not top tier weapons.

Of course I could have just asked a friend to drop them for me instead but it was easier to just "cheat" them in :)

  • First thing I remember was asking Papa whyFor there were many things I didn't know

And Daddy always smiled, took me by the handSaying someday you'll understand

Well, I'm here to tell you now each and ev'ry mother's sonYou better learn it fast, and you better learn it young'Cause someday, never comes

  • Only the most recent.

I also have never had any issues with game breaking bugs like that. I've encountered some glitches but nothing a save+reload couldn't fix. Everything just resets to its normal spawn point.

  • RIP to a legend

For the last couple decades, Phil was an outspoken advocate for organ donations thanks to a donor named Cody who saved his life. Every concert he would ask people to consider becoming an organ donor. If you're not already, think about it. As Phil said, you could "save the life of someone you'll never meet".

  • But we would eat Kraft DinnerOf course we would, we'd just eat moreAnd buy really expensive ketchups with itThat's right, all the fanciest-, Dijon ketchup, mm, mm

  • That was when he took LSD for the first time intentionally. There was one time before that when he absorbed it accidentally.

  • I remember this episode of Parks and Recreation

  • I really liked Dawncaster but then I didn't play it for awhile and when I came back it had changed significantly and all the builds that I used to win with consistently no longer worked out. Honestly it's probably more balanced now than before but I haven't spent enough time with it to get good again.

  • I'd add Slice and Dice to that list

  • I really wanted to enjoy them but I just couldn't get into the first book. Between the naval terminology and my complete lack of knowledge of the geopolitics of the era, I never really settled into the narrative because I spent all my time trying to decipher what was actually going on.

  • I knew "copse" from Dark Souls 2.
