  • I controversially agree, freedom of religion is a fundamental part of the United States’s identity. However, these people could always be praying for terrible things, so there’s a definite duality to this image. That being said, I think that religion can be seen as a mixture of freedom of speech and expression; I believe that this is a human right. Secondly, since I’m assuming that most of you are atheists here, why should you worry about what they are even praying for? If atheism states that there is no all-powerful deity, then this bickering is meaningless. If Christianity and its teachings happen to be true, then it is certain that the Christian God would never be in favor of what’s currently happening. For example, Mark 12:31 states “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Which is the complete antithesis towards current events. As you can see, both possibilities show that God or not, the current administration is not supported by either.

  • During Covid, 2020-2021. I was under the weather and bored out of my mind. I spontaneously decided to install Arch Linux, and the rest is history. Installing Arch was invaluable to my learning experience, and taught me a lot about Linux

  • Yes I’m pretty sure that this has been an option. For example when I go to imdb.com and right click on the tab, it prompts me to “add imdb” for search. Many such cases on many different websites. Maybe they changed the term or function.

  • I disconnected my smart tv from WiFi and just use my own home network. By setting up a static ip address on both my tv and media server through the eXXXX device, and connecting the two via Ethernet cable, I can access any media I have saved on the server from the tv with little to no lag. This allows the tv to continue being “smart” to some extent, but only with the addresses I specify. It’s also arguably better since Ethernet speeds are usually 100+mbps for me against 2mbps wireless speeds.

  • KDE Plasma has proven to be one of the most customizable desktop environments available. Theming is easily achievable with the versatility of QT, (which is technically on Hyprland but more versatile in a full QT desktop), as well as the versatility of panels that can be moved and modified to whatever you wish for them to be. External plugins or programs like Latte dock, or the Plutonium tile manager further expand on Plasma’s capabilities. Hyprland is also customizable, but almost only through external sources, making Plasma much more accessible and seamless. Of course there are reasons behind this, but each to their own. Feel free to state your own opinions communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz, but since this is an IMO post (basically opinion of the OP), I think we’d all appreciate it if you were more civilized and detailed as to why you felt the need to shoot down the OP. Also, maybe research your claims before commenting.

  • A love Hyprland, but KDE Plasma does so many things for you and saves time. If you want to change screen resolution in Hyprland, you need to check the wiki or man. In Plasma, you simply use the settings app. Each environment has its own purpose, and Plasma’s is for general purpose use.

  • The issue was extremely non-negotiable, and the person wouldn’t listen to reason. Therefore I ended up following advice best I could by creating a new dedicated email for the Life360 account, and additionally using initials instead of a full name. Because I’m stuck on iOS for now, I have no option but to constantly track my precise location in the background. My VPN does not work with location spoofing on Life360. I’ve turned off any data collection/analytics in the in-app settings that I could find, but that’s probably only scratching the surface of how much more you can’t control or disable. I mourn the loss of the privacy that I’ve sustained for so long, and my battery as well; it has taken a massive hit since Life360 was installed. I may look into a cheap wireless plan to support Life360 on a secondary smartphone, but otherwise I’m just going to have to wait until I have the opportunity to get a Pixel for GrapheneOS until this issue is truly resolved. In the meantime I’m considering getting something like a faraday bag for externally blocking phone signals. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

  • I love that idea, but it would probably cost money because of a second SIM card. Maybe I could look into buying a prepaid card

  • You’re not making sense, please elaborate. Are you agreeing or disagreeing?

  • As long as they aren’t doing horrible things in the name of religion, then I have the controversial opinion that religion isn’t all bad. Not everyone is an intellectual, therefore some religions can be considered a way to promote and preserve morals. While it’s unknown how his mother used religion, the neckband portrayed in the comic had no regard for his mother’s feelings or beliefs, showcasing the bad side of atheism. In the same way, religion could have similar effects. In the end there needs to be balance, a yin and a yang.

  • You need to use an external device to do that, making it extremely convoluted and annoying to do.

  • I created separate panels for the widgets at the top of the screen, giving them a separated appearance. I think it’s useful because they grow or shrink depending on the content, maximizing screen real-estate

  • This is something I never knew that I needed. Thanks Prahou!

  • I didn’t think about that one, I’ll have to check it out later

  • So what’s the alternative to Lemmy? IRC? It seems like every social media platform has problems.

  • I’ve wondered that myself, but I’ve come to the conclusion that transgender individuals seem to value their privacy more than the average person. This is all due to increased cyber bullying to them online. Linux is well known for being free from data collection (except Ubuntu) and corporate greed, so it would make sense if this was an operating system of choice.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them?
