  • Make-work. Republicans coined the term “make-work” for jobs created by government that have no apparent benefit or return on investment for society. ICE is another great example. There are three reasons Republicans create make-work programs. The first is of course to create a slush fund for contractors and former politicians and officials for the purpose of embezzlement and fraud. Guys like Michael Chertoff, for example. The second is to deprive the legitimate factions of government that are actually interested in maintaining vital programs or repairing the infrastructure in this country from the funds needed to do so. The third is to propagate the idea that the government can’t do anything for common people and when they do they fuck it up.
