  • Literally the first thing the Black Panthers would do if they managed to seize control of Oakland, Chicago, or any of the other cities they were gaining a lot of support in would be to build up forces and invade neighboring population centers to liberate prisons, de-occupy Black communities, and bring industry into their control to eventually sustain a full scale civil war effort. You understand that, right? Just because their revolution didn't happen doesn't mean that they weren't ready to go and kill a lot of people to make these things happen.

  • solidarity with Brazil from another LATAM person. Ironic how (at least online) we communicate in English so often because it's more common for a Spanish or Portuguese speaking latine person to know English than the other language.

  • The logic goes that the individuals who use their share more efficiently will make more profits and will outcompete those who don't make good use of resources. That's the general principle behind the invisible hand of the free market, it will promote the more profitable solutions precisely to prevent the pitfalls of the tragedy of the commons.

Then the flaw becomes the supposition that profit equals good use of resources. I think it's better to attack that resulting side of the argument than the basis; people would understand your criticism of the market to equate the capitalist mode of production with a more primitive one. That does away with the nuance that capitalism has brought innovations with it that have opened up new productive capacity. Marxism isn't anti-capitalism.

  • There's the entire upper ranks of the CPC and the Communist Party of Vietnam. Probably lots of people in the Cuban, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan government too but they aren't very wealthy. Lula's inner circle. Morena higher-ups.

I am supposing there'd be a lot of people who are in the national organizations who don't have enough proximity to the intelligence apparatus to meet your criteria.

  • Just checked his profile and he has "plague rat settler" on there so presumably he's been called out on this before.

  • No correlation

  • That's a really far cry from "child trafficking ring conspiracy." How is it comparable at all that some Chinese city government people have had affairs with adult women, meanwhile a laundry list of many dozen heads of state, billionaires, international celebrities, and other important figures were conspiring in a child trafficking operation? I think you're reaching to find any reason to equate China with the worst elements of the West even when no evidence exists.

  • I wonder how you got that information out of them? I guess I haven't had a conversation with a kid in years but it seems like it'd be hard to lead the conversation that way unless it was a field trip to the job factory or something.

  • I have to admit that his name sounds cool, maybe I'm alone in thinking that IDK, maybe it'd work as the name of a frontman for a metal band. But mutilating yourself because you scare away women with your fascism is such a new level of gross and unappealing. It's incredible that culture has gotten to the point someone like this gets attention or respect, even if it's from fellow gremlins.

  • In contrast, even compared to the smaller and poorer SAlt, which also runs an independent third-party strategy, PSL has seen consistently worse results:

    • Size: As mentioned above, PSL likely has about 2,200 members. We know that PSL and its national front groups had a budget of about $8.17 million to $10.48 million.

    • Efficiency: With this budget, PSL has not yet won a single elected seat. That’s about $9 million and 2,200 members per 0 electeds.

    • Win rate: PSL has won 0 of its 40 races since 2008, and had one close loss:

PSL has only received more than 40% of the vote in one race: In 2021, candidate Colin Dodson won 57 of 142 votes for Urbana City Council. This is a very small race.

PSL has only received more than 15% of the vote in three races: In 2010, PSL’s candidate won 16% for Mayor of Long Beach. In 2008, PSL candidates won 18% and 21% for Los Angeles Board of Supervisors.

By any objective metric, PSL’s electoral strategy has failed to produce material gains. In fact, PSL’s strategy has produced just one candidate that came remotely close to winning an election.

  • The elections comparison is solid. PSL has spent a significant amount of money on campaigns they've never won, while the DSA and other left groups in the US have gotten actual electoral victories (many at the municipal level) for less money per campaign.

Of course, you'd argue that PSL isn't an electoralist party and they just use the electoral campaigns as a way to get people engaged, not expecting to win. Maybe, maybe, but IMHO as someone not in the US nor in any kind of communist org (i.e. take my opinion with a pinch of salt) a cadre org like PSL probably could find greener pastures to engage people in than an electoral campaign, maybe some kind of direct outreach and education program would make more sense than spending big money on presidential runs. Just my 2 cents.

  • The target audience of this infographic is definitely the kind of radlib that is extremely proud of how "informed" they are about China's authoritarianism and feels a sense of smug moral superiority over the other kind of lib/generally-left-wing people who feel that way about China.

  • Oh no, my kid could have the choice to delay their puberty until they're ready to make a decision as an adult!

  • Nobody knows who Roy Singham is, including me lmao.

AFAIK the intended part of this bit is for people to google him, see he's a pro-China billionaire who gave PSL and their front orgs $40m, and think that's bad.
