I have 'iterally been saying to my classes (especially as my various NIH/NSF/.gov links are breaking during class) "pretend nothing is happening outside the walls of this school, just for a few minutes".
I got scooped by my own PI in grad school. Had an idea for a next step, was told it's a bad idea and not a good extension of the literature... then found out someone else in the lab started what I had proposed per the PI's guidance.
You just reminded me to get another compact pocket camera. I had a Powershot with some crazy-ass optical zoom, but my parents bogarted it after a few vacation trips. Damned thing goes for $600+ nowadays.
WVU has a tram system called the "PRT". It's semi-automated cars on a track around campus and downtown. It's not great, but goddamn does it handle a large school population just fine. Very high throughput, and it keeps congestion down. ... as down as you can be with such a high density town.
Harvey is distinctly missing...
