  • AI is a very generic term and people should stop using it synonymously with LLM which is a very specific thing.

LLMs have the hallucination problem, and that is a fundamental aspect of the technology that makes it unfit for many of the purposes that are driving investment.

If I'm somehow wrong and LLM based tools actually become useful, I can learn them then. "Use shitty tools or you'll get left behind!" Is a completely stupid argument - "skills" in using a shitty tool probably won't transfer to using this hypothetical good tool anyway.

And just to reiterate, the argument of "the internet/smart phones/whatever was revolutionary so this is too", even though so far all we really have is "some ok sometimes coding tools", "search that lies sometimes", "summary that lies sometimes" is completely stupid. There are plenty of technologies that didn't become part of our daily lives as well.....

  • "Nvidia had good sales in the last 3 months" doesn't necessarily conflict with whatever drove those articles last week...

"A technology got more useful in the past" isn't a compelling reason to argue something else will get more useful...

Use your critical thinking skills lol

  • I hate it when people submit PRs they can't understand or explain. It is more work for me than just writing it myself. Also, this whole "AI can bootstrap an app!" line is fucking stupid. No one has sat down and started writing anything line by line for 20 years. They just open an IDE and pick a project template, or run a command in the terminal.

  • He should be cowering in his bunker

  • dont disrupt the 99%'s way of life.

This is ridiculous, because the problem inherently requires cooperative change, and as we've seen people will throw shitfits over things as small as plastic straws.

A big thing would be to start switching from ever expanding auto infrastructure to public transit systems where possible.

    1. Fewer vehicles that transport more people
    2. Can use the space that is currently occupied for parking cars better

Another big thing requires changing our diets. Some types of food are more resource intensive than others, but also we ship food all over the planet and the resources for transport also contributes. Eating food that is in season on your continent would make a big difference.

The last thing is maybe the least obvious to regular people, but maybe we don't need to build that data center yet if we can't power it without fossil fuel. We need to entirely stop expanding energy usage until we've switched over entirely to sustainables.

In summary, basically everything that needs to happen is going to affect regular people, and they're going to have to get over it, or we're going to make the planet completely unlivable.

  • So no on the introspection LOL

  • governments are trying to take away privacy from regular people so we never should have tried to give it to everybody

    Wtf?????? That's completely asinine.

  • Just chiming in to say that everyone that reads this deep thread is going to think you're the clown and not the other way around. If you think otherwise you need to do some introspection.

  • I know. It was a bad joke :/ (Zip disks are also very old tech)

  • only games I like count as games!

  • You already can't "sideload" without navigating the options and going through a big scary pop-up saying you better know what you're doing. In other words, it's already locked down enough.

This is not about making grandma safe. It is about control.

  • Wow I thought they'd upgrade to zip disks by now

  • He clearly is charismatic - the results speak for themselves. I'm with you though, even way back in 2015 all I could see is an obvious conman.

  • What Republicans are good at is having a propaganda outlet lying to everyone that watches it for 30 years and is treated even by opponents as if it is a news source.

  • Tf is an ad?

  • If you don't start using sapient printers today you're going to get left behind!

  • Your point? Climate change has the potential to affect every living thing on the planet. Even the horrors of world war 2 didn't have that kind of reach. Additionally, humans eventually have to stop fighting when enough of them are dead. Climate change is a threat that humanity can unleash but be potentially unable to stop. Like I said, a different kind of beast.

  • IMO climate change is kind of a different beast than hardships from the past.

  • As for Windows apps, do NOT try to run them via Wine

I wouldn't say that's totally fair. Just like proton with games, wine keeps getting better, and full support is really a case by case basis.
