  • This is why my go-to is to tell them that the moon landing was faked, but NASA hired Steven Spielberg to direct it and he demanded that they shoot on location on the moon

  • Obligatory I’m not trans myself, but this is just my understanding of how people justify their hatred

Trans women also get talked about more bc of the transphobic lie that “trans women are just men that want in on women’s spaces to prey on women” and that “trans women are predators.” This is all bullshit. But it’s built upon the patriarchical idea that men have to protect women from other men. Men are simultaneously painted as the protector and the danger and which category they fall into is generally determined by how close they are to the in-group. So cis het non-white men are “dangerous,” but there might be some “good ones.” And white cis gay men can be “okay,” as long as they don’t “make it their whole personality” (re: keep it a secret and never mention it even once). However, trans women are antithetical to patriarchy so they are seen as like the “most dangerous.” Whereas, trans men, while they aren’t part of the in-group, they also aren’t seen as a threat bc transphobic people think someone AFAB can’t be dangerous. Again, this is all bullshit, but it’s bullshit that people who have bought into the patriarchy believe and act violently upon sometimes so it’s important to understand how they got to that so that we can deconstruct it

  • I don’t think he made people decide a pedophiles is the only option. I think he and the rest of the establishment democrats failed to give the people who didn’t want the pedophile something to vote for. Yes, people had plenty of reasons to vote against trump, but they didn’t have many reasons to vote for Biden or Harris. The reality is that giving people a reason to vote for you is what actually gets them out to the polls

  • The Guardian article about it mentioned that the farmers that refused the offers were indeed threatened and told that they would invoke eminent domain and have their lands seized in the end anyways

  • I can’t find it now, but I once read an article that said that bc patriarchy devalues women and our opinions and centers men, it results in straight (and non straight men I suppose) centering other men in their lives. Since only men’s opinions matter, men do everything for the approval of other men, usually the “manliest” man. For example, “trophy wives” are usually more about showing off to other men rather than bc the husband actually wants to be married to or is even super attracted to her. Or some men will pretend to not be attracted to a woman if their male friends have deemed her unattractive. Basically, they have done studies on it and if you search for homosexual desire and patriarchy you can find some (though I can’t find the specific one I’m thinking of)

  • It’s even more realistic when the banker is stealing money!

  • AI isn’t smart. It can’t even think

  • Damn I didn’t know about that lawsuit. Apparently some Bernie supporters sued the DNC for rigging things in favor of Hillary:

A pending order from the judge will determine whether the court sides with the DNC, which faced backlash after leaked emails showed CNN allegedly gave the Clinton campaign planned questions ahead of a debate between the former secretary of state, and Sanders, who quickly rose to prominence and popularity among liberals but failed to garner enough votes to secure the Democratic ticket.

Sounds like they didn’t rig any votes, just didn’t give them a fair race. Which, that’s still bad, but workable. We should still vote in primaries; this just highlights the need to volunteer and make sure people know which candidate is truly the best, even when their own supposed “allies” are working against them

  • Depends on who it changes to. If a miracle happens and it’s somehow an actual progressive/left candidate and not just an establishment dem then it could happen. It’s just that, yknow, it depends on getting a progressive elected…

Vote in the primaries and get a progressive candidate on the center stage so we have half a hope these fucks will face actual consequences

  • They might’ve gotten a lot of shit, but the reality is that women and lower-income people, those who will be most affected by the bill, are a core of the democrat voter base

  • When someone (traditionally a woman) changes her name when she gets married she has to change it with everything, including social security, which is a real pain in the ass. It also means that her “real name” is now different to the name on her birth certificate. So if she tries to use her birth certificate as proof of identity and citizenship, like for this other ID bill, it likely would be denied as proof bc the names don’t match. So she would probably have to get a passport if she doesn’t already have one. Except to get her passport she would probably also need to use her birth certificate or a whole bunch of other stuff. Basically, tho bill doesn’t explicitly say “we want to make it harder for women to vote” but it will cause issues for everyone and women will be disproportionally affected bc traditional women take their husband’s last names

  • Glad to hear you’re on the mend! Don’t feel guilty, feel angry they make vital programs so complicated and difficult to apply and get approved for

  • This is a really great response! Well written and very hopeful

  • I think that kind of thing works best as an actor who has put in the work bringing that human element to it, like that Mark Twain thing you went to. It keeps that sense of distance, so you know it’s not 100% that historical figure (since I guarantee some people would absolutely believe that an ai “George Washington” is somehow like an actual scan of George Washington’s brain). I also think a human can bring that passion and understanding to the performance that an ai just can’t do, even if it’s an advanced, not-constantly-hallucinating ai

  • Laher was also ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation, 200 days of unpaid work, and to pay £1600 to Taibi. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Technically he’s not allowed to drive for two years but that is such a small punishment for trying to ram a bicyclist with your car—Something that could very reasonably kill them. It’s actually insane how much people get away with under the bullshit disguise of just “reckless driving” or “road rage”

  • That’s a banger line and I’m totally stealing it

  • Shaming establishment dems won’t work. You just have to primary them out with a better, actually progressive candidate. As more and more progressives get voted in, the establishment dems will be forced to lean further left just to get elected so that they can collect their corporate bribes like the republicans. Eventually establishment dems will either 1. Give up 2. Switch to being (outright) republicans or 3. Move only as far left as they have to be to get elected

  • As an American: I’m not. Just bc he was appointed doesn’t mean I trust him (nor did I vote for trump). The people that do believe RFJ Jr were fucking crazy conspiracy theorists to begin with
