  • This whole thread had me wondering how much I'm costing them so I could at least pay my share. A quick search got me this page to donate. There's some information about how they are using that money, but it doesn't seem like they've spent much, and it makes me feel like they've got funding from somewhere else that covers their hosting costs.

  • They can can only do that once per type of budget bill, per year. And since they can't stand not getting what they want, they obviously had to use it the first chance they got.

  • Any hardware or tool store will have some. The only place you'd have to worry about getting fakes from are online stores. But even then I'd imagine it's pretty rare given how cheap the real ones are.

  • Y'all, ask your doctor about a sleep aid. I got a prescription that changed my life. It's so nice being able to settle the noise at night and actually get 7-8 hours of sleep.

  • Just Fyi, paracetamol is acetaminophen.

  • Do you have a source for the joggers bit?

  • No where did I say that, you obtuse troll.

  • No where does it say that consumers should be required to do these things. Just that if the only end of life possibility for a product is the land fill, then we should restrict it's manufacturing. Obviously there would need to be exceptions for things like medical needs or accessibility accomodations.

  • I've been told that more recently than the 2000s, but I'll be honest, I didn't really do much research into it. Sorry that I offended you by being wrong.

  • McDonald's does, assuming they haven't changed that recently.

  • That article outlines the issues with the idea really well. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Oh, my, god, they were right about the 4D chess all along.

  • Yes, and flour comes in a paper bag. It doesn't stop manufacturers from trying to protect their product from incidental moisture contact.

A company who already packs their product in plastic is going to have a much easier time switching to something like this than changing their whole packing line out for box packing machines.

  • I'd just like to note, Elon doesn't have majority stake in SpaceX any more. He only owns 42% as of last year. I doubt the other investors will be so keen to burn all these bridges, but I guess we'll see.

  • I think some of y'all are missing a lot of packaging use cases other than food. But even in the food sector, there are dry things like pasta, beans, and rice that don't have salt in them. If it really is as strong as a petroleum plastic for these items, it could eliminate tons of micro plastic.

  • I wouldn't say it's famously flat, but it's pretty flat and definitely not in the mountains. It's next to lake Michigan, which is one of the "Great Lakes".

  • It depends on why someone is a dietarily vegan. If someone is such because they need to avoid something in animal products, like cholesterol, or an allergen. Impossible meat would be fine. If they are "whole foods, plant based" then they probably aren't going to eat an impossible burger unless they don't have better options. There's a whole spectrum of reasons people go vegan, and most of the ones I know have a combination of moral, health, and environmental reasons.

  • I've never heard it pronounced like that, and I live somewhere notorious for bad pronunciation. Is there another similar word pronounced like him-all-ee-an in your local accent?

  • I hadn't looked into Kagi, as I only learned about it after I had started using Ecosia.

I just glanced through the info page, they let you customize your search results, and it seems like they do some curation of the results too. But they are also getting in on the AI search band wagon.
