  • These posts keep cropping up every now and then, see this post from yesterday. One of the top comments explains why these posts are meaningless or even harmful.

To reiterate: Germany issues travel advisories for almost any country to inform tourists what to pay attention to and what to be prepared for. For example warnings about bad water quality in ponds in some areas, possibilities of blizzards, forest fires in some areas, differences in driving laws and car rental laws, acceptance of currencies/payment methods, recommended vaccines for specific areas and of course what legal documents you need to enter. A few days ago the travel advisory for the US (see here) was updated, adding that you should be careful in Minneapolis because of the protests there and harsh reactions from the federal officers, and information about the current winter storm was added. The advisory also informs about strong border control measures such as officers being allowed to search through your phone/laptop but this was added almost a year ago.

This travel advisory is useful and exists not only for the US but for almost all countries, including Canada, France, Japan, Israel, China, etc. What would be more important is if there had been a travel warning issued for traveling to the US, which is not the case (see here).

The US may not be doing well but these travel advisories from Germany are no indicator of that.

  • Uhm actually, that is Cunningham's law after Howard Cunningham, developer of the first wiki!

Murphy's law states that "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" smhmh.

  • Source. It's an article on the satirical news site The Hard Times :P

  • Saying Europe is a US vassal state is a bit much lol. Europe is one of the biggest economic powers in the world together with the US and China. They all export and import a lot of wares between each other and thus depend on each other. The tariff deal the EU got with the US wasn't that great and the leader of the European commission, Ursula von der Leyen, got some backlash because of that but I guess her tactic was to just appease Trump so they will have more time to transition away from the US in some areas. On the other hand that deal reduced some very annoying tariffs on steel and car parts, so it was partially successful.

  • Merry Christmas, everyfur :3

  • Haskell is pretty cool, I really like Scala too. It's a bit easier to understand for me :P

  • very cute art, would pet :3

  • As other comments have stated, other brands usually also sell non-RGB RAM sticks. Personally I got Kingston FURY Beast RAM sticks, they come in either RGB or non-RGB variety, though the RGB variety costs like 10 dollars more.

  • Funnily enough, that site was also down due to Cloudflare issues. lmao

  • Huh, I really can't tell if this is AI generated or just photoshopped together from real images! Can't see any of the usual AI art mistakes like things bleeding into each other.

  • That was a fun read! I don't even know what Postman is but I do like curl :P

  • Just want to cheer you up a bit. You don't need a relationship to be happy. I hate that people think like that nowadays but everyone should be allowed to be happy being single. But also, if you do seek a relationship it might still happen eventually. You got this :)

Also: OP sure is an ass lol. The original post is pretty stupid. Maybe just rage bait.

  • Regarding your edit: Having read through the comment chains here, your source is a relatively new malware called RingReaper. This article from cybersecurity news seemed nice and they linked to the actual PICUS security report which first identified the malware, I think. I'm not sure whether this malware is actually used to infect Linux desktops or if it's mostly used for infecting servers, or whether it is used at all. I agree that people shouldn't let their guard down with malware on Linux. Anti-malware programs on Linux are a good idea and it seems there are already projects tracking and combating malware on Linux. I do agree that Linux malware is not unheard of.Nonetheless you seem to over exaggerate a bit. There is malware attacking servers running Linux but I doubt that many of those would work on desktop Linux. Furthermore, desktop share of Linux is still low, so there won't be a big incentive for malicious actors to target Linux desktops specifically. The comments you posted here seem more like paranoia to me and do not seem useful, and your single example of a Linux kernel virus seems more like a derailment of the conversation. With that I can understand the downvotes. Don't take it too harsh either, no need for your witty comment:

Explains a lot of contemporary politics, I think

  • That's the difference between: "Alexa write a message to Pam: [message]" and "Alexa write a message: Pam [message]" :P

  • So cute! I love Suzamuri art :3

  • hmm, for art I usually save art with the artist name and an ID as the filename. If I'm feeling really fancy I create an excel sheet with tags, artist name and original source for each stored image in the folder.I planned to eventually write a program to easily manage these databases for me and to poll for new art from FA/bsky/etc. but lack of time and enthusiasm got to me :P

  • There is actually a c/test community here on pawb.social. Never used it though :P

  • I hope you're alright after that physical attack! Hope someone educated the kid on their autism and their actions too. I think I slightly understand the train of thought with the "it's not an animal" argument though. I'm guessing the kid assumed that the word gold was reserved for actual gold unless talking about animals like the golden hamster or goldfish where it just meant gold colored :P

Edit: also sorry for sending this comment thrice, no idea how that happened
