  • Maybe I can repurpose my 20TB drive to but an apartment, that would be an ok investment I think

  • Holy shit, dystopia is real

  • Yup, saw some stats from screenshots on there, their mail service had a cap of 300 mails monthly and it blew up to over 50 000. Verification/mail servers went up again yesterday at 4am CET but still seems like the authentication servers are pretty overrun.

  • Yeah, I lade my acc a year ago and iirc they didnt have voice chat then. Now they seem to have better permissions for channels, vc and video/screen sharing around the corner. Only thing Im lacking is fediverse type of instances so we can only pray that will be developed one day. As of now idk what the status on self-hosting is but ive seen the devs link alot about it in their official server

  • Stoat.chat, anyone?

  • Atleast point the gun in the right direction, please. I've used Discord since it's release, when I moved over from Skype. I've seen the enshittification all the way through and can safely say, as with every other SaaS software, if its run by a corporation it will eventually pile into a bag of shit. Thats not the users fault. Ive been looking for a promising alternative for a long time but there just isnt a good alternative. When it comes to features used by Discords users and communities most alternatives are lacking some key component that makes a switch hard. I just hope this speeds up the development of these features on alternative platforms.

  • Same situation basically. Psychiatrist told me she sees alot of ASD/ADHD patterns but I'm not diagnosed yet, got more doctors visits incoming.

But i basically am the same way, i have a very hard time looking new/unknown/untrusted people in the eyes. When i get to know them and the silly brain meat recognizes there's no threat i have an easier time doing it. I still kinda default to not looking anyone in the eyes but after the ease-in period its alot easier and removes that overwhelming feeling of awkwardness.

  • Had to check this because i never heard about it. But yeah, apparently dug up during a church renovation, presumed medieval.

  • Been a Linux user since 2018 and I've never know this, wtf

  • Jesus i worked at exactly this kind of project once. The only other dev was also very hostile and protective of this position. He did not want me there in the slightest. Took about 6 months before we cancelled the contract since this dude was just actively harrassing me in Teams DMs on the daily and he just ignored all my concerns regarding maintainability since "he could understand the code" and i was probably just "not experienced enough".

Don't downplay what this does to your mental health. 5 years of workplaces like this and I'm now starting to see a therapist due to exhaustion disorder symptoms in my goddamn 20s. Take care our there!

  • Curious take, Rust has about 137k users online (24h peak via steam charts rn atleast). Dev claims 0.01% of users play on Linux. That's 13-14 players. If even a single person decides to cheat or run Linux to cheat the amount of "cheaters on Linux" would indeed "dramatically increase". But that's a really bad way to tell the narrative.

I don't really care, i haven't played rust in years and as others mentioned there's way to much games i can play instead. Ive been playing a lot of The Finals recently and I've had a blast. They have Proton support and anti-cheat and atleast publicly say that they do want to continue supporting Linux.

If not supporting Linux is a business/economical decision just say so. This is a really bad way to discuss the situation and an attempt to frame linux players as cheaters. If you have 14 players total on Linux out of a total 100k then they most likely aren't the problem.

  • Im so curious about the new VR tech, isn't this what the VR nerds have been talking about, like, forever? I guess we'll just have to see how well implemented it is.

But goddamn, what an absolute bombshell to drop 3 pieces of hardware at once. Lets hope they can deliver.

  • "Backup your files in our solution, it's so safe and secure!"

immediately deletes everything at any minor inconvenience

"Please give us more money! Again!"

Edit: most likely not even deleted, still used for LLM training except now no one "owns" the data so it's free reign.

  • Lmao, that one is on me. Phone decided not to open the link last time so i didn't check. That's hilarious though, well done 👍

  • Like, don't get me wrong, it's cool and all...

    but why?

  • "We are a family after all"

  • My fiance always tells me how much she hates me complaining about things and not doing anything to improve it, and i think that's a fair point. She has had to continuously tend for herself, fighting health care, education system and society to get by. And that really made me understand that complaining without doing anything is both priveleged and stupid. I have more respect towards others than trying to force Linux down their throats, but just complaining and ignoring a solution, even if all the circumstances line up perfectly, is just dumb. Complaining is justified, not doing anything or pretending you can't is not. That being said, the Linux community is obnoxious and, in many cases, has the worst case of superiority complex, although i do believe we have gotten way better at that and are way more welcoming now than before.
