  • I found a physical kitchen timer most helpful. It's really quick to set it and I can chop veggies or wash the dishes in the meantime, without having to check the clock all the time.

You can also get one with a magnetic base and stick it to the fridge.

  • Aside from what the others said, I think a big advantage for CLIs is also that they're a lot quicker to develop and extend with functionality. So, while yes, there are GUI options for lots of tasks, if you need to do niche things, there is still a higher chance for there to be a CLI for that, or for a more general CLI to be feature-rich enough that it covers your niche use-case.

  • Alright, yeah, we're talking about a pH value of around 8 for alkaline water. That's also the pH value for eggs, sea water or blood. So, I do imagine our mouth+esophagus can deal with that. At the very least, alkaline water should be food-safe.

  • That's kind of why I never feel great about buying video games. The price is pretty much entirely arbitrary.Like yeah, they did an investment, it is fair that they recuperate that. But the actual price they need to ask of each customer entirely depends on how many customers there are.

And so, they will always start out asking more than what they expect to need to ask of each customer, which just feels like I'm paying too much. But even when they do put it on sale, there's likely going to be sales in the future where they sell it for even less. It's not like they need to empty out a warehouse or such, where they put up uniquely low prices. So, even when I could get a game on a sale, I'll feel like I could also just wait longer...

  • The kids yearn for the mines...

  • The body doesn't care much about alkaline water, since the stomach acid is so acidic that it will easily overpower it...

  • She did the math (with some assumptions), but basically 0.25 mL of lemon juice will turn 500 mL of alkaline water into neutral water:

This is in the video at 13:16.

The reason is that pH is a logarithmic scale. Alkaline water has a pH of about 8, which means it has a tenth of the hydrogen ions compared to neutral water at pH 7.Lemon juice has a pH value of 2, which is 1,000,000 times more hydrogen ions than there are in pH 8. So, you just need a little bit of lemon juice to increase the hydrogen ions in alkaline water tenfold, which makes it neutral.

  • Where I live, the 4yo would get molested by a priest, and that would get covered up by the bishop. Which is also a pretty good reason to leave / not join the church.

  • Pretty sure that's also how religions were historically...

  • I guess, maybe they thought in comparison to other churches?

But yeah, if there is only one church in the area, like there often is, then it's a bit silly.

  • I always enjoy it when I post a silly joke and the first two people misunderstand it, and then the rest of humanity sees a negative number, so they don't even give it the benefit of the doubt anymore and just toss their -1 into there for good measure.

Like, it's sad that the post went to waste, but I don't care how far into the negative it is. At that point, a large negative number just amuses me.

  • I doubt the details make for a particularly riveting story, but just to say it: I do think it is more complex than her just not being a good person.

  • Yeah, or their parents argued a lot and they don't want to end up in a relationship where this is the case. This can also mean they're quick to exit a relationship as soon as the first conflicts need to be resolved, because it feels like a sour relationship to them.

  • Many years ago, I was working together with a girl my age for about 3 months and I had decided pretty early on that I didn't want to impress her, but that I would use the time to work on smalltalk and such. It was a factory job with lots of boring tasks, so there were lots of opportunities to entertain each other.

After 2½ months, I felt like I was doing better than I've ever done in my life. Then she hit me with the sentence: "I don't think any girl would want to go out with you, because you don't talk enough."

So, basically worst case: That's genuinely what she thought.'Best' case: She was trying to hurt me, but well, she still knew which wound to poke into, so I guess, I wasn't doing that great either way.
