  • Die genaue Entstehungsgeschichte scheint etwas umstritten zu sein (habe gerade auf Wikipedia 3 verschiedene Fassungen gefunden), aber das Meme bezieht sich auf Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt.Der wollte, gemäß 2 von 3 der Darstellungen, ein angeleintes Bären-Baby nicht erschießen (nachdem er bei der Bärenjagd wenig Glück hatte), was dann von einem Karikaturist aufgegriffen wurde und dafür sorgte, dass sich Teddybären als Spielzeug etabliert haben.

  • Hier wurde vor zwei Wochen eine Plastikpflanze im Gang aufgestellt. Also zumindest war ich mir ziemlich sicher, dass es Plastik sein muss. Jetzt sind da aber auch einige der "Blüten" abgefallen.Bin mir nicht mehr ganz so sicher, würde mich aber auch nicht wundern, wenn es einfach der letzte Billigschrott ist.

  • Wusstet ihr, dass DNS ganz oben in der Anwendungsschicht stattfindet?

    Also ist jetzt bestimmt für einige keine neue Info. Ich musste mir das auch irgendwann mal für eine Prüfung reinprügeln. Aber hat einen Kollegen und mich letztens doch nochmal überrascht.

    Hatten da mit einem Studenten zu Übungszwecken HTTP selbst implementiert. Also TCP Stream aufgemacht und dann selbst die Textnachrichten abgeschickt, um HTTP zu sprechen. Dann den Server auf einem Raspberry Pi ausgerollt und wollten den Client damit sprechen lassen.Und joah, DNS Namen gehen halt nicht, nur IP-Adressen.

    Ich glaube, die Namen lässt man am Ende doch vom Betriebssystem auflösen, um eben auch Hosts-Datei und Co. mitzunehmen, aber dafür muss man in seinem HTTP Client trotzdem noch was implementieren. Es ist nicht einfach so gegeben, dass DNS Namen eben Aliase für IP-Adressen sind...

  • I've seen it argued that the best way to create lightweight software is to give devs old hardware to develop on.

    Which, yeah, I can see that. The problem is that as a dev, you might have some generic best practices in your head while coding, but beyond that, you don't really concern yourself with performance until it becomes an issue. And on new hardware, you won't notice the slowness until it's already pretty bad for those on older hardware.

    But then, as the others said, there's little incentive to actually give devs old hardware. In particular, it costs a lot of money to have your devs waiting for compilation on older hardware...

  • Then those indigenous people need to figure out their morals. Chances are, they are embedded in a context where this is a lot easier, because they don't have factory farming. They are part of the food network and take only as much as nature can recover.

    You want me to be the arbiter of all morals? Well, there's my take. Indigenous people hunting are not the problem. Other parts of the hivemind might have a different view on that, though, and I'm not gonna apologize for their take.

  • It should be said, though, that this really is just a general rule. Some frameworks and programming languages are definitely less efficient than others without providing more versatility.

  • Which is the case, because traditional penetrative sex (penis in vagina) does not stimulate the woman particularly much. They're more stimulated by the clitoris, where oral sex works well.

    Well, and because penetrative sex does stimulate men quite a bit, so they orgasm early on and then often don't continue stimulating the woman.

  • Yeah, that's honestly where I thought this title was going. I'm somewhat terrified of long-term relationships, because I need my alone time. So, I would also recommend communication. Maybe she's secretly quite happy to be home alone and just doesn't say it, because well, evidentally this concept really does not compute for OP and so might be taken badly.

  • Well, I hope you are happy with the answers you already got, because my answer is that I personally don't care to keep these items, so I don't have much of an opinion on it. 😎

    That's kind of the point I was trying to make up there, that I don't have to be the arbiter of all morals, just my own morals...

    But if you want to keep such trinkets and you feel like you've informed yourself enough to know that no harm is done to these animals, and that makes you decide that it is moral, I will gladly accept your decision.If I learn that it does harm in some way, I would let you know, though. Not to attack you, but because I would assume that you want to do no evil. And that you don't subscribe to the horseshit belief that your own ignorance of evil makes it moral.

    I feel like I really need to drive home that veganism is when you care, but you're also lazy. I don't want to have to inform myself about every supply chain for my food and every possible moral effect that my actions might have. So, I just nope the fuck out of a large chunk of that by not dealing with animal-sourced products.

    Like, yeah, if a bird drops a feather in front of you, the supply chain is quite obvious and I would hope you don't set off a trend of enough people wanting feathers in their homes for there to emerge an industry.

    So, it's almost certainly fine. But if I myself don't actually want a feather, you can bet your ass that I will gladly stop thinking right then and there.

    If these were not just random examples and rather genuine questions, then I would try to help you reason through it, but ultimately the decision is yours...

  • I guess, they might not be talking about individuals, but rather humanity as a whole. So, if a person rapes someone and this becomes publicly known, they will generally be shamed more than a woman having consensual sex (even though some rapists also get to be president, I guess).

    But across the board, we have insults that every kid knows, which equate to "woman having (consensual) sex bad", as well as gossip of the like, and even men being shamed for going out with a woman who has sex.Compared to that, rape is rarely talked about...
