  • There is no or. They will just disappear culturally and individually if they persist.

  • Yep, who watches the watchmen. And what does the vanguard guard. Two of the more important questions never asked.

  • Obligatory ML aren't communist and never will be. And it pisses them off to no end when it's pointed out. 😆

  • Opinions by their very nature are subjective.

As someone who's used Debian for 30 years though. Waiting years to use a new feature of an app was a common and painful experience in many cases. Nothing to do with stability. Though absolutely this is thankfully getting to be a bit outdated with the proliferation of flatpak etc.

  • Yes, Debian is slow to change or break. Slow to change sucks on the desktop pretty often. But on servers not breaking and not changing is typically what you want.

  • Particle's still collide in space. There's nothing keeping them from doing that. Collisions simply increase due to increased pressure. It's not really technical, just true. If anything it's a misunderstanding to imply otherwise or that empty space exists. If you want to distinguish human audible. Then certainly it isn't that. But then neither are infrasound or ultrasound.

Technically and extremely fascinating is that "space itself" not just the baryons inside it, is still a medium. Its literally how LIGO functions. And if that's not mind blowing enough, there actually are massive structures in space caused by pressure waves that we can detect. Those are technical. And another fun fact, if the atmospheric pressure at sea level extended all the way to the sun. We would be able to perceive the sound of the sun. Millions of miles away. Everywhere across the surface of the earth a constant 100 Dba roar. A bit quieter than standing close to a jet engine.

  • There's a medium even in interstellar space. But the pressure is low, so transmission is as well. There is no hard boundary on 'atmosphere'. Just smooth gradients of density across the universe

  • Debian on my servers. Arch based on my workstation. Fedora kinoite for parents and family to reduce tech support. Postmarket on my android chrome tab. BSD on my SBC.

  • I generally don't have much problem either except for network cards. Network cards can absolutely still throw you for a loop today.

  • Heh, what about ancestors predating photography generally. I'm officially on tribal rolls for a segment of a tribe death marched across continent. That the capital of Canada literally shares a name with and still has a presence in Canada. One of these days I should stop wondering about it and start finding out. It's a long shot but still.

  • Business or individuals designing and putting systems and software together with support and stability in mind. Sort of like dell lenovo HP etc were known for. Like system 76 or tuxedo.

Your hardware will work right out of the box because it was designed to. No frustrated phfaphing about at the command line first thing. Trying to diagnose Wi-Fi weirdness and niche hardware bugs as a complete novice.

My biggest gripe with videos like this is that they don't even explore the option. Let alone show it off or promote it. Part of it is the Linux / BSD culture of course it runs on it. Obsessed with the fact that it could more than whether or not it should. combined with the unquestionable fact that Microsoft forcefully and illegally. As in have been found guilty in court of forcing and bullying system integrators to not offer alternatives of any kind. So much so that BSD and Linux have been almost completely the domain of techy and skilled enthusiasts in the know for decades. Who often make far better evangelists than they do tech support. Especially when your median user just want computer go burr.

  • The thumbnail is 100% clickbait. Linus is doing his normal thing. But he was very understanding generally. Luke "by the way" has really gotten way deeper in than just experimenting with mint. Daily driving now. Even the newer hire is generally positive of the experience this far.

I'd say despite the thumbnail Linus's issues were of course niche but valid for anyone installing on random hardware. Actual things that need to be looked at and worked on. And part of the reason really green users should be pointed strongly to Linux system integrators first. Rather than random distribution on random hardware.

  • Vavilov was truly great scientist. Shame authoritarians are always the enemy of truths their strongmen are to weak to handle. Dying in a gulag while a quack was promoted. And Leninists still lionize and defend Stalin and similar figures like Xi, Deng, Kim $_first_name, etc etc etc.

  • A different icon theme would be the first stop. The other possibility, if you wish to keep the icon theme. Is to download a PNG or SVG of the icon you want. And then edit the shortcuts icon to point to it.

  • There are some disabled by default, filters built into piefed. That the main Dev uses on their instance. It's not really even remotely the same thing or as controversial. But it's the closest thing piefed has and gets brought up regularly because of it.

  • Well, if someone points out the official methodology is designed to undercount. One might want to read said methodology. Apart from that, the Internet is your oyster, as well as cable news. Pick a source you find reputable. Fox and NBC point it out any time its advantageous to their chosen candidate. Even trump remarked on it himself in 2023 to attack biden. There are clips from Maddow from 15 years ago talking about it under Obama too. It's a chestnut old as time used to attack those in power, but never with intent to fix the systemic problem.

  • Yes, their methodology. Exclusion of discouraged workers, part-time workers wanting full-time work, and strict "actively seeking work" definitions ensure the numbers don't actually reflect the reality. But rather the more rosy fiction those in power wish to push.

  • Steam and PC gaming if anything. That and changing life priorities in my 30s and 40s. GoG and epic too. Between them I have almost 1000 games I didn't pay for. Combined with hundreds on steam from humble etc. I probably spend more time trying to decide what to play than playing it.

  • There's 3 kinds of lies. Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Our unemployment numbers are purposefully bullshit and have been for years too.
