  • As the compensation begins to flow with initial payouts on Friday, advocates are calling on the provinces to invest that cash into tobacco-reduction strategies.

Good idea. There's also a gap when it comes to addressing non-smokers experiencing smoking-related health issues, so anything aimed at tobacco-reduction would benefit that group as well.

If the tobacco companies "want" to throw money at the situation instead of finding a sustainable solution, we should be suing them on the regular to get that money. A one-time payout, whatever the amount, is a drop in the ocean compared to the money spent advertising tobacco.

We've been watching I Love Lucy. At first I downloaded it and the file was all chopped up. The story didn'tflow smoothly, and so we found the original broadcast files and discovered why. In a 25 minute show, fully 10 minutes is intense Phillip Morris commercials, embedded in the show. They don't cut to commercials, but an "expert" (authoritative-sounding white man) walks you through the ideal day, smoking constantly. At breakfast, at your job, playing golf. There are at least 4 different styles (live action "expert", animated Lucy and Ricky, live-action Lucy and Ricky, and what is clearly intended to be a young boy in the role of those old timey movie theatre concessions clerks or something making personal recommendations , and I feel SO fortunate that we don't live in this world any longer.

24 billion is NOTHING to these ghouls. Make 'em pay.

  • Dude of the approx. 8 billion people here, it seems like almost all of us are breaking the law by not giving shitter all our money.

Seriously, what a huge waste of the court's resources. This should have been dismissed immediately.

  • ICE detention providers

  • It's like they're submerged in a world of text-based begging letters. Take a faith healing correspondence, a soupcon of charitable dontaions, and a dash of chain letters. For a modern twist, blend in signs from homeless people.

Whatever the motivation, when one person is desparate enough to try and persuade you to just give your money away, there's a tone. If you grow up in that world, I imagine there's a lot of reinforcement that seeps into daily conversation.

  • Around here the timing is always described as "when they gave McDonalds their coffee contract"

  • The grinch?

  • Which, as another commenter noted, is ridiculous. If you can't run a functional office with work from home employees, you're really just showcasing how piss poor of a manager you are. Can it be turned around by a younger generation stepping in to show how its done? I'd sure like to think so.

  • Great movie! And a great example of where Mark Whalberg's talent is best suited. You're a chump. You play chumps really well. Stop pretending you can act, chump.

  • "How do you mentor someone over a phone? You can't. You've got to look at them eye to eye," Ford said during an unrelated news conference Thursday in Pickering.

Just because you are personally incapable of growth, don't inflict it on the rest of us!

Ford said his government wasn't influenced by the bank mandates, but said business leaders he'd spoken with agree "everyone needs to go back to work."

Aren't politians meant to represent the will of the people? Doug's always listened to his corporate buddies though.

  • Shaw’s case is the latest in a growing list of foreigners facing interrogation, detainment and deportations at the US border, including a British tourist, three Germans Lucas Sielaff, Fabian Schmidt and Jessica Brösche, and a Canadian and an Australian who were each held and then deported, despite having valid work visas.

Ugh way to make it sound like there've only been a handful of people this has happened to. I think I read a report a few weeks back which said how many Canadians were being actively detained by the US at this time, and it was easily 50-something people.

It is OUTRAGEOUS that the US is detaining people without cause. Where is the international outrage as each country's citizens are needlessly treated like criminals??

  • Such a handsome fella!

  • No kings!

  • "Deceptively"

  • Is that Superman?

  • Well the Joker clearly stabbed that guy with a wooden dagger about 1cm wide with a novelty eraser on the end

  • Maybe its because the thumbnail makes you look a little ... dictatory

  • In addition to Summer Student Season, I hear there's a lot of ICE pouring through LA this year.

  • Totally fair, my friend. You do you, but know that from the outside looking in, it seems like you're putting a lot of additional pressure on yourself to reach "perfection". Only you can know if this approach is working for you, regardless of the various labels society is trying on at this time.

I saw you got a lot of downvotes, but to me you are asking the same questions as the rest of us. If your experience is downvoted, don't worry about it. These things are totally subjective, nuanced to talk about, and there isn't 1 single "correct" universal answer. I personally benefitted from listening to the Anxious Overachiever podcast, which helped me realise that people in positions I percieve to be successful are struggling as hard as I do sometimes.

I appreciate you sharing your experience and broadening the discussion 🙂
