He also mentioned Cachy as a viable option for Steve alongside Baszzite, with the caveats on both. I'm glad Steve decided on Bazzite. I'm a Cachy OS user myself, but I still like Bazzite for the purpose Steve needs it for. I think it'll be great and I hope he succeeds, genuinely
Very true. I guess I could have phrased it better. But you're right, not everyone needs to dig deeper into Linux, a lot of us want to just enjoy their system that just works. I'm actually one of those people.
And excellent, because being linux, drawing attention to issues increases the chances of them getting fixed, whereas that is hardly the case for Windows.
This is the most important part of this whole thing to me. Imagine Nvidia watching Steve shitting on them for having horrible drivers on Linux and millions of people seeing that.
This is great. Honest people like Steve and Wendell are great for Linux. Let's make sure, as a community, we don't give them a hard time about their distro of choice. I think bazzite is an excellent choice to start until they get comfortable digging deeper into the system.
You didn't say which GPU! If it's all AMD, then just replace. That's what I did and everything worked fine. If you're going from AMD to Nvidia, them install the Nvidia drivers first, turn it off, replace, turn back on
Yoooo, I have two kids who I have never laid a hand on, and they behave extremely well compared to their peers (not perfect by any means, but I am very happy with them). My father beat the shit out of me when I was a kid, and what did that get him? Me hating him until now. I still help him and take care of him, but to be 100% honest, I don't have love for the man. You don't need to beat a little being who has no defense to make them behave, this is just absurd and stupid.
They're good as a gaming/day to day use distros. It's a bit annoying when you start needing to install things on the root level. It's doable, but not as straightforward as on your regular distro. I have bazzite htpc as my basement steam console and it's been fantastic (one issue with suspension but no big deal, I just shut it down when I'm done).
I also have it on a laptop that I use sometimes before bed to watch something or do something on the browser. They're great if you want something that just works.
You can use the windows utility tool by Chris Titus to debloat windows to death if you want.
