  • Me too

  • Interesting solution, but for the record, Should I Answer? doesn't block texts. It only affects calls.

  • Add all of your regular calls to contacts. Block any calls not coming from your contacts. See "Should I Answer?" app for example.

  • Other than security differences, is the interface just like on a Pixel? Can I still force dark mode on uncooperative apps like on Pixel? Is there still notification history? Screenshots/select on overview?

  • I'll drop Android before I drop F-Droid

  • Not encouraging to hear about crashes. I do use xDrip already. But my setup uses both xDrip and the Dexcom app.

I'm willing to change a lot to keep Foss.

  • Most of my messaging is to family, and they are all on signal, but outside of family RCS of better than SMS.

I am not degoogled but I'm pretty careful. Google apps are only in chrome and that's all that browser is used for. Ironfox is my main browser. I removed the advertiser Id on Android.

But the majority of my apps are open source and I'm concerned about where Google ID going with side loading. This will be what forces my hand.

I hope I can get my Dexcom working on gos.

  • I assume you did lose RCS and Wallet? Anything else?

  • +1 for Kvaesitso. It requires a different way of thinking but in the end it needs much less tinkering. I wouldn't return to Nova now even if it were open sourced.

  • I have no interest in anyone else's blocklist

  • I'll second that

  • I'm very interested, but losing tap to pay could be a deal breaker. Also, Dexcom app can be very picky. But if Google makes side loading too difficult all bets are off.

  • Is the ui the same as Pixel?

  • 4 bowls of chili before the interview. And deviled eggs. No words necessary.

  • Just use an ad blocking DNS. It might not block every other domain from connecting but it blocks most of what you want to block.

  • There is something to be said for making modifications instead of forks so you are never waiting for an update.

    Here's my 2 cents: https://github.com/celenityy/Phoenix

And check the link for feature comparisons.

  • Sure you can go super private with more inconvenience with Graphene but there is a less drastic compromise. I turn off the advertiser id, block ads via DNS, use DDG and Brave for search, and browse via IronFox and Brave.

That way you keep the convenience of Google wallet and other services without the same degree of tracking and even if they get some info you won't see the ads.

I'm really anxious about what they are doing to F-Droid though.

  • I use it but it is slow with notifications and I don't like the way both sides have to agree to deleting or self destruct messages.

  • I second Kvaesitso. Great list though.
