Yea and I don’t even get what appeals someone to the aesthetic if they’re not rebellious.

So, it doesn’t stop it, but it definitely helps.

World News@lemmy.world•US Democrat Ro Khanna detained by Israeli settlers during West Bank visitEnglish
12·3 days ago2 is different because it’s a term used nowadays, as in your reply. I’ve never uprooted myself and went somewhere empty to build a house. So, I’m not a settler in the first sense. I’m a settler in the second sense, as I’m not part of any native nation.

World News@lemmy.world•US Democrat Ro Khanna detained by Israeli settlers during West Bank visitEnglish
117·3 days agoWe’re referring to two different meanings here.
-
A settler, as in, someone who comes to settle land that has been emptied through war, disease, genocide, etc. This one, we see as negative
-
And settler in opposition to native. Of course in that sense it’s not negative. At least, I, as a settler, don’t see it as negative, it’s just a neutral descriptive and useful term.

This is rag material or clothes for gardening, painting, etc.

Most of us understand that and want cities to be improved away from a car-centric design.
Many in the fuckcars community drive a car.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukrainian drones flew all the way to Siberia to strike Russia's largest oil refineryEnglish
2·8 days agoI was thinking more of the globalized market for oil.
If Russia can export less refined oil, that can encourage the construction of new refineries elsewhere. This could negate the impact of drone attacks on reducing CO2 emissions.
But as others have said, there’s demand destruction that can have an effect.

Well, it’s part of the picture for many areas.
In my area, you can’t ride a motorcycle during a third of the year, save rare exceptions.
In all areas, there are other inconveniences. You can’t carry young children, it’s not great for carrying logs, agricultural produce, mulch, etc.

While I think that caring about how you look is not the same as “attention seeking”, I think that “feeling good about you look” is still related to socialization.
If we didn’t care whatsoever about others, we wouldn’t have any reason to care about how we look. It doesn’t have to be consciously thought like “if I do that, I’ll be more attractive to the other sex” or “if I wear this, my tribe will recognize me like one of theirs”. But feeling good about your appearance is still, in a roundabout way, about socialization, I think.
When I look in the mirror and see myself with my long hair (as a man), my metal band shirt and a wristband with norse symbols, I feel great about myself. But I think it’s not random coincidence that I happen to be really into metal.
