  • A lot of TV shows and movies from franchises still running. There's a huge amount of nostalgia attached to them, but there's plenty out there now that are just as good if not better.

It's hard not to be biased when humans have built-in rose tinted glasses though.

  • I too have the memory of a steel sieve.

  • You have to be passionate enough about the topic that it’s not work, it’s just something you do because you enjoy talking about

    <topic>

    .

    This ^

I make a fair few posts (mostly back on reddit but now I'm here) and I don't do it because I get anything concrete from it. I just like seeing the replies to some of the random shit that pops up in my random-ass brain. (And I enjoy seeing how people respond rather just the content of their responses too.)

I like chatting about certain things, and luckily for me I don't need to create a community because they're already there. But frequently I want to chat about something within that community that doesn't exist, thus, I post. Making a community is just the next step in that.

  • I do that with Babylon 5 sometimes. Poor people don't know the hilarity they're missing.

Picking through avocados at the grocery store in a Zathras voice saying, "not the One, not the One, not the One..." sigh

  • I post on Lemmy lol.

If you're a bit of a nerd I suggest looking up local tabletop RPG groups and giving it a shot. It's one of the easier ways to be social as an introvert. It has a sort of regimented system of socializing that everyone understands, with an end time and an obvious goal. Once I'm in a better spot myself (life has been rough the past bit but it's looking up) I might do this myself.

But for now drinking and watching shows and shitposting on Lemmy still works for me lol. Used to post on Reddit, 100k+ karma there, Not banned, but I am sick of reddit's BS, so now I'm here instead, sorry y'all.

PS: I'm staying at a monthly rate in a hostel, and I go to a couple local food banks. There's a "free food" area in the communal kitchen that I stock up once or twice a week because where I live the food banks are extraordinarily generous.

People have started to notice and been thanking me, and as a result they've been striking up conversations and getting to know me. (I am very much an introvert.) So I've been socializing a lot more than I normally do as a result.

Too esoteric to recommend, but figured I'd add this random ass story as socializing can happen in the strangest of ways at times.

  • Lastly, for my wasted potential award, I would say Westworld was cancelled just as it sat on the edge of redemption.

    I have words on that,

/agree is the short answer. Long answer is too long for this moment. Just, slash agree. It was a planned five seasons and we ended on a low point four season in because we dirty fuckin' humans deserve to end on a low point. But. ...

  • Good on ya, I've been in a shitty situation but I'm aiming for moderation rather than abstinence but neither is easy and both are, .... roads to traverse. (My previous housing situation was full of crackheads which is not where I'm at.)

Whatever it takes. I've been keeping myself structured with early morning appointments and one family member who's helping me despite most of my family probably wishing I was just dead. I'm lucky in that regard, I have someone who gives a shit and monetarily made that clear. (Beyond prayer and hopes, which are fuckin' useless.) If I didn't have just that single one thread, I dunno where I'd be.

  • I still have that map book on my shelf and whenever I see it, I think of that trip and all those people we met.

    Awesome. Truly.

  • Asklemmy @lemmy.ml

What's a random act of kindness that's stuck with you?

  • AI can detect when you've used AI (lol) and may disqualify you for doing it. (Bigger lol)Copy lines into notepad which will remove the formatting you don't see, then copy it into your resume/application to help avoid that.

Look for jobs in the usual places, but try to find the actual company site/email and apply there directly.

When asking AI questions about your job search, don't be afraid to add your own limitations to the search. (Can you drive? Can you stand for prolonged periods? Are you "honest to a fault", then sales might not be for you.)

Look up ATS in this context and learn what it is, and more importantly, learn how the people using it, use it. (And if they use it at all. Construction companies probably don't if they're not big.)

  • It’s at a friend’s house so i could go a few minutes early and pop it into her oven when we arrive. Thanks!

Okay, that being the case I'd suggest you nuke the dip WITHOUT the cheese for a few minutes first to warm it up at their place. Nuke 30secs, mix, nuke 30secs, mix. Etc etc until it's warm maybe even steaming.

Then add the cheese on top once it's warm/hot and broil it. That way it's faster and you aren't relying on the oven to warm the whole thing up. Just to broil the cheese on top to make it look and taste good. (And it'll broil faster so less standing/watching.)

PS: You can still bring the bowl full of broken candy canes if you think the joke'll land. Meheheh...

    Good luck and speedy recovery.

  • Having both an online and physical backup is best though.

I've lost a bunch of stuff in two bad moves, lost boxes and just plain ole physical damage. I also know others who've lost due to water damage. Pests, mold, and fire are also considerations. (Albeit the person who lost stuff due to pests didn't lose dvds, they did lose a lot of other things though.)

Neither is 100%. Both is better.

  • Bowl of assorted of broken Candy Canes. (Cane being the operative word.) Meheheheheh I'm a funny man... Okay okay.

Assuming you have access to a microwave where you're going or you can microwave it at home if you're not going far:

Pick up a premade spinach, artichoke, or mexican-ish dip, and some parmesan or shredded cheese that'll go with the dip.Bring a big microwave safe bowl.Get some greek pita/plain chips.Sprinkle the cheese on top, nuke it 'til it's warm and gooey. If you can broil it in the oven for a bit beforehand that'd be ideal but then you might as well do the brie.

  • but I was a bit terrified by the fact that all the participants will actually get a first aid certificate.

Sounds like the last Food Safe course I did.

  • I use Ublock Origin with Firefox and it works well on my win10 laptop. I use Brave on my Ipad and it works "alright-ish" but well enough. There are a lot of options to remove the ads. Highly recommend checking some out.

  • Free (government funded) AI workshop for resumes, coverletters, and job hunting.

Most of it was useless but some of it was extremely informative.

I forget the exact statistic (from StatsCanada per my instructor) but a high percent (50-75) of resumes get auto-rejected by something called ATS. Basically an automated system for HR. And sometimes it can be something as simple as the system noticing you're using AI...

Let that sink in for a sec there. AI rejecting you for using... AI. OOF.

  • Bring up newer Star Trek and Star Wars around nerds and watch the world burn. 😈

  • I've been scheduling things early when I could've scheduled them in the afternoon just to keep me from sleeping all morning and help keep me/create somewhat of a routine.

  • Day drinking. :)

  • Bit of a tangent, and also very much IIRC...

In the US saying "sorry" can possibly be construed as evidence towards admission to guilt of the crime, whereas in Canada there's a "Sorry Clause" of some sort specifically stating that saying that apologizing isn't necessarily an admission of guilt.

As a Canadian I kinda got a kick out that. I live somewhere many people still thank the bus drivers as they exit the bus.
