  • The fediverse has been getting a rash of these types of comics designed to specifically widen the online gender divide with seemingly innocuous comics.

Make no mistake, this comic in particular is not bad, and has already engendered some good discussion. The issue is these brand new accounts posting one or two comics about how men suck, or women suck, or whatever, and then leaving.

  • Yeah. Occassionally I like to check back in on people who 'made it big' for one reason or another, to see how they're doing. I was happily surprised to see this guy took his chance seriously and turned it into an actual career while also avoiding a shitload of common pitfalls surrounding this type of fame.

Cash me ousside girl is a good example of someone who got famous, but kept a lot of the bad habits from childhood around, which is always a shame.

  • I think the general consensus was that he was weird and creepy, but we didn't actually have proof that he was a pederast.

Sorta like the creepy old man in the van down by the river; nobody saw him do anything weird so he's not in jail, but everyone and their mothers makes sure he doesn't ever get any alone time with a vulnerable person.

  • Their service was genuinely good for the short time I used it. You'll note in my post that I would still recommend it to anyone who doesn't plan on doing more than average browsing and light torrenting.

They just wanted an excuse to cut me off since I made more use of it than the average person likely does, and their 'unlimited' advertising means you can't actually know what their real limits are.

  • For what it's worth, I've been enjoying the heck out of AirVPN since then, with absolutely no issues.

  • It really is a great dynamic pose the artist made here.

  • You're missing the ignorant backwoods racist element. Those people are signing up for ICE right now. None of this is as simple as a single group of people causing all of the problems.

  • Well, he has two tabs, so more like two spiritual experiences at the same time instead.

  • That's one of my long running pet peeves, actually. Having your changelog be the exact same bullshit, alongside updates every two days for as long as i've used the product, really don't inspire any sort confidence in a product.

  • Likely more accurate to say 'know the future' instead of 'predict the future', but the intent is the same. He doesn't share what will happen, only what will likely happen.

  • People are being brainwashed with crap like "calories in, calories out" or "exercise more" but that's just bullshit. It pushes the idea that too much weight comes from a personality flaw and not health issues, but yet any actual (and by that, I mean proper) doctor will quickly search for medical reasons for weight gain because there's a million of them.

Genetics affects how the caloric intake is handled. It does not change the fact that adjusting caloric intake will directly adjust how much weight is even possible to gain.

Studies concluded that the presence of these genes increases the risk of obesity but does not necessitate obesity. This risk can be ameliorated by healthy food choices, increased physical activity and avoiding other causes of obesity mentioned in this review.

  • The initial message immediately suggests going against his wishes and the rest of the thread is about whats good for Debian

Well yeah. This whole thread was started in the Debian bug tracker. Of course the focus is going to be on what's good for Debian. The fact that jwz showed up immediately means they followed the Debian bug tracker, which begs the question, why would jwz subscribe to that if they didn't want to be there? It also sets the tone for the whole discussion. Original reporter was whiny, but, like, it was directed at the Debian team, not jwz. jwz chose to insert themselves into the Debian bug tracker discussion, and also chose to be aggressive about it.

If I where in his situation I would tell them to go fuck themselves as well. Its just incredibly disrespectful to the person who did the actual work.

That's fair, honestly. jwz owes the Debian team fuck all. But the other half of that is that the Debian team tried to work out a middle of the road solution and were met with immediate hostility.

You can't work with someone who doesn't want to work with you, so you do what's best for your project and just move on.

  • I have used this card for a couple years.

    Pros:

    • five m.2 sata slots
    • single slot pcie, and short / not extending past top of slot
    • incredibly cheap
    • mine has been reliable
    • no extra power needed
    • no pcie bifurcation or other special motherboard features required (works in anything)
    • the individual drives do show up as individual drives in Debian for me and can be accessed separately (not a hardware raid card)

    Cons:

    • pcie 3.0x2 speed in an x16 slot (2GBps)
    • doesn't support m.2 pci
    • doesn't support booting from the installed drives

If all you're looking for is cheap, quiet, storage, and you don't mind losing out on total read/write speeds, thisll actually do great just about anywhere.

  • Having just read the whole thread;

xscreensaver developer jwz added an allcaps/all bold notification to xscreensaver that says that the current xscreensaver version is really old. This notification could not be user canceled / okayed through. The author did this because he apparently received several emails about xscreensaver versions that were years out of date.

Debian stable's policy is to make no updates unless they are security or bug related. This directly conflicted with jwz's policy of only supporting the latest version of xscreensaver.

The Debian maintainers chose to remove the unskippable warning as the other options were harder to maintain / worse to use. This was specifically permissable in the xscreensaver license, but against the authors stated wishes to have xscreensaver removed entire if the warning could not be kept or the software could not be updated.

Of note, jwz escalated to yelling at the first reporter about this in his first email and swearing at another reporter in his second. The Debian stable team offered suggestions which would direct Debian users to the Debian development team for bug reports about the old versions of xscreensaver, but jwz's hostile approach made that not happen at all.

If I install debian stable it's because I want it to work, and to not be bothered about anything that doesn't need to happen. That's whole point of having Debian stable around. One of the points made in the discussion, which I strongly agree with, is that Linux software is managed in a repository, not individually. A windows program telling me out of date is obnoxious, but expected. A Linux program telling me it is out of date is a obnoxious and unexpected. (Fucking discord...)

The xscreensaver author shot himself in the foot with this one; presumably he wanted to avoid being harrassed over old versions of xscreensaver. What he ended up doing was telling everyone with an old version of xscreensaver that they need to update and then guaranteed they would harass thim about it by not giving the users an option to ignore and walk away from the message.

  • My chip is a couple years old and has started to cause issues on occasion with the more finicky readers. I just tap when that happens, but it's still annoying when it does.

  • I was in the army for a couple years, but I dont actually have any particularly impressive numbers from then. They had me doing sleepless night bullshit from day one, and I hate losing sleep with a passion, so I made sure to grab back every hour I could manage.

The longest I ever stayed up was from 6am to 6pm, the next day, so about 36 hours or a single overnight stay. I hated it everytime it had to happen for work. The morning after staying up all night felt like I was drunk, and my ability to handle people and doing things was completely shot. The only time I ever got in trouble with my boss was when I was tired (up since 2am, actual event happened around 8pm that same day). I'm also quite sure I would've got into at least one fight with my commanding officer while sleep deprived if I actually had any inclination towards that sort of thing.

Sleep deprivation completely kills my long term planning, my sensory management skills, my reflexes, and also deadens my ability to care, about anything.

Despite all of this, I also hate taking naps. It fucks with my sense of time, and I'm always too worried about 'missing out' while trying to ever get any good rest from it. So have to fight for a good sleep schedule to stay sane instead.
