  • You know, I expect that the generational divide will change which ads people connect over, but I don't think that the majority of people will stop using them as a way of connection.

The new hotness is making fun of raid shadow legends, and I expect there's several others I just don't know about as well.

  • Grindr went public in 2022.

There's your problem right there. The article also notes that the website 'sniffies', which was banned from the iphone store, is what many people use now.

  • I know several people who only watched the Superbowl for the advertisments / halftime show.

Regardless of how shitty it is, one of the big cultural touchstones is also the advertisements they played on tv when someone was growing up. A lot of people use ads as another way to connect with a new person; meeting a other local to your area means you can mention a particularly overplayed ad from childhood and likely be able to find another person who saw it growing up too.

  • Wack. Here it is.

  • This one is mine. It's a little quirky but I love it anyways.

  • You know how the grand canyon always looks kinda crazy in photos? It looks just as crazy in person and it is wild.

  • "‘Quite frankly, we have nothing to lose’: how the UK is going weird for its 2026 Eurovision entry"

"So, quite frankly, we have nothing to lose. And if that means entering a guy who runs a museum for “experimental and obsolete scientific and musical technology” in Ramsgate and whose name makes me die a little bit every time I have to type it out, then so be it. We’re going to lose anyway, so what the hell."

Stuart, you're really pissing me off with your high and mighty "artiste" bullshit. Sam has genuinely good music, with a very creative aesthetic. Just because he doesn't do pop music that hits top 10 for ten weeks straight doesn't mean his work is without merit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irfXSw55DUo&list=PLluPQLh1xzlKkAfB-joSEaccwQBr6OSi1

  • Fair to say it's only a sign when it starts to happen regularly.

  • BASED?

  • Yeah. That's my personal indicator that there's something wrong with my work setup; avoiding doing the thing that leads to the unpleasant parts. I guarantee he started hiding in his car after the relationship issues began.

  • BASED?

  • Nope. It's a trans-generational ploy since time immemorial. The worst ones are the bosses who ask you to stay so they don't have to go home, but it can happen to anyone.

  • Fuck AI @lemmy.world

    Cast it into the fire

  • The worst part about the mid tier villain is that they could have easily found something way better.

    https://www.motorbiscuit.com/steals-lottery-tickets-returns-to-redeem/

"Florida Man Steals $7K in Lottery Tickets, Returns to [Same] Gas Station to Redeem Them"

"...Farley drove right back to the scene of the crime, marched in, and announced that he wanted to redeem some lottery tickets. The same-day staff must have thought he looked awfully familiar. They told him he couldn’t redeem the tickets.

Farley was determined. He did the old “walk around the store and get back in line,” hoping a different staff member would take pity on him. But the answer was still no."

I would edit and repost this myself, but I'm using my phone.

  • Because they used middlemen in Iraq and the other middle eastern countries to get the terminals. It's incredibly likely that this has been in the works for a little while now. You don't wanna accidentally cut off access to Ukraine while clearing out the bootleg clients from Russia.

"There is no formal accusation that SpaceX is doing business with Russia directly - only that it might be failing to properly police redirection of its equipment to sanctioned entities like the Russian government."

  • Valve's better than Epic Games, but they still have every incentive to keep users in their ecosystem with DRM.

    Very true.

Thats why Proton on the Steam Deck only works with Steam running in the background.

Lmao what? You have proof for this? It's just as likely that it was easier to do it the way they did.

  • It really is always crazy to see the different perspectives. I've actually unsubscribed from a channel for the bad quality youtube put on all their 1080p videos. I'm also still eagerly awaiting the slomo guys bluray release of their greatest hits.

  • Well, that, and vhs is one of those things that is fun to play with. It's never going to be perfect, and that's enough to keep people like me coming back to see what new improvements I can make to my vhs setup this time.

  • New blurays are 30-50 each. New DVDs are 5 or less, each. Libraries usually have bigger dvd collections than bluray collections. People use what they can afford, not what is best.

  • Maybe all other humans are only about as well-simulated as current LLMs.

Welcome to 17th century philosophy. Radical doubt is not a new idea and this has already been discussed to death. Believing that you are a Truman Show-esque character doesn't really help you with anything. Same as wondering if you are a simulation, rather than just in one.

The world is real enough to hand consequences to you just as soon as you start treating other people like they aren't actually real. Arguing that people, who aren't you, don't exist, is the same as arguing that you are the only person who actually exists in the world.

  • The fediverse has been getting a rash of these types of comics designed to specifically widen the online gender divide with seemingly innocuous comics.

Make no mistake, this comic in particular is not bad, and has already engendered some good discussion. The issue is these brand new accounts posting one or two comics about how men suck, or women suck, or whatever, and then leaving.
