So, this is the place where I'm going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I'm also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I'm making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I'll link the other socials I'm varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I'm demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • Why not just move here permanently and kill your Reddit since they clearly demonstrated they don't want you there?

I mean, I wasn't ever banned from Reddit, but I left on my own before that would've inevitably happened since I had some comments sniped for BS before they started ramping up the censorship there, and I don't plan on ever going back.

  • Given BSD is supposed to be a complete package while Linux has a separate kernel and userland, that's probably why.

  • Do you think IBM wouldn’t make Red Hat completely proprietary if they had the chance?

Adding to this, Google would make Android fully proprietary in a heartbeat if they could, given they're already closing down more and more portions of the AOSP and trying to lock down app development and distribution as well.

And conceivably all it would take to turn Android fully proprietary ala Windows, is to hard-fork AOSP to keep the Lineage/Graphene/etc. users happy, and then rewrite main Android as closed-source.

Although, it's kinda ironic that Windows, a fully closed environment, is less restrictive in terms of app dev and distribution, than Android, a supposedly semi-open environment, is. Like, MS isn't mandating signed exes or trying to fully lock Windows into the MS Store, yet, while Google is trying to mandate signed APKs and also trying to lock Android into the Play Store.

And before anyone says, 'But SmartScreen,' unless that option is specifically disabled, you can just run unsigned exes by clicking 'Run anyway' still.

  • Because at least in the US, the Constitution is pretty much a dead letter at this point.

  • That won't be of much good should Tor or I2P get taken down too, and a major Tor exit node operator recently getting arrested doesn't spell anything good on that end.

  • Matrix, also PeerSuite if you don't wanna leave a paper trail as PeerSuite discards your sessions by default.

  • If Win were released this way normally, there wouldn’t be as many haters.

    • It used to be until Win8.x. Win7 was the last release where the only bloat you had to deal with was third-party bloat on a shitty OEM prebuilt you got at your local big-box store. A clean install from a vanilla MS install media was just that; a clean install. -sigh- You know Windows is toast when you're nostalgic for the days where the extent of your bloatware woes were Norton or McAfee, or whatever OEM bloat came on your system that a clean install with a vanilla media would easily get rid of.
  • She doesn't even deserve to get suspended for basically defending herself from someone making CSAM of her, let alone expelled. She was in the right and should've gotten off scott free, the guy making the CSAM is the one who should've been expelled, on top of getting bad-bad charges for it, which he did get charged for it.

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • He got charges pressed on him for the deepfake porn, so potentially he got a 'bad-bad' charge, as AfterPrisonShow puts it.

  • So expel the victim of a potentially life-ruining act and also a potential crime, and not the person making the deepfake porn. That makes perfect sense. /sarcasm

Really, that deepfake porn is going to do worse damage to someone who isn't even in high school yet, than a slug to the face ever will; that black-eye will heal, the reputational damage caused by someone making deepfake porn of you, not so much, and deepfake porn is a crime in a lot of places to boot.

Oh, and btw, that person was let back in on probation with that expulsion still on her record, if I were in charge of that school district, I would've expunged her record and let her back in with whatever achievements she would've had prior to expulsion fully restored, assuming that's possible, as her acts were fully justifiable IMO, and instead I would've expelled the person making and posting the deepfake porn, and potentially pressed charges if deepfake porn is illegal in a given state/province, which is an act that's far worse than slugging a person as it causes permanent damage to a person's reputation; like I said, a black-eye will heal, reputational damage caused by deepfake porn won't.

UPDATE: Charges were pressed against the guy sending the deepfake porn.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff said one student was charged with ten counts of unlawful dissemination of images created by artificial intelligence in September.

  • Thanks, and I'm using both, crayons, oil pastels, colored pencils, and markers are all being shown off here.

  • How is it acceptable anywhere for someone to be expelled for hitting someone else, in a scenario like this where the cause is completely understandable? If anything, the kid making deepfake porn should be the one expelled because that kinda thing can be legitimately life-ruining for its target. The person being expelled had every reason, right, and justification to throw hands.

I'm probably sounding like Ailurus here, but this is screwed up.

Also, isn't deepfake porn a crime in a lot of places even if it's of adults, and not of kids like in this case, which CP is already hella illegal on its own?

  • Maya's had a Linux port for years now; problem is you need to be running RHEL to get support.

Of course they also could've just discontinued that port and made Maya Mac/Windows-only.

  • Given MS has been testing Windows on the Cloud in the enterprise space for a while now, I wouldn't be shocked if future major Windows versions, ie. Win12, became cloud-based.

  • This is why I'm glad PCs aren't locked down like phones and there's nothing stopping you from running an alt OS on the desktop yet.
