  • My dad's all worried about sleeper cells, and I don't know how to tell him that's not really a thing in a way he'd believe me. If they could suddenly awaken a large enough group in the US to actually do some damage, don't you think they would have done so one of the other times we randomly attacked them? Also, he doesn't distinguish between Iranian or any other sleeper cells, they're just "terrorist" cells that come generally from the Middle East. Don't know how to convince him that that's really racist, either.

  • Yeah. Thankfully mine seems to understand why I have such a hard time working and hasn't been trying to urge me to keep searching for and/or working at soul-crushing jobs. Or at least jobs that crush my soul. There are people who genuinely enjoy cleaning, but a combination of perfectionism and psychosis made it hell for me.

  • My therapist wants me to watch and apply the movie A Beautiful Mind. From what she says, it sounds like I'm supposed to learn some miraculous mental technique that would allow me to not be troubled by my hallucinations anymore. Am I misunderstanding, and/or am I wrong for thinking that's a ridiculous thing? She points out that the voices come from my head, therefore I should be able to use my head to stop them? Like, there's a dysfunction going on? I don't actually have control over them? Am I totally wrong here?

  • I hope not. Even for the right wingers, surely someone in the establishment is aware he's in significant mental decline. I figure they'd just run someone else who espouses the same politics but is a bit younger, which shouldn't be hard to find. I don't know that they quite have the support they need to change the constitution or fly in violation of the law just yet, but I continue to be surprised by the amount of support they do have.

  • You're good, no need to apologize! I'll keep those responses in mind, though, because there are some people I'd like to turn left. Yeah, I just usually don't bring up socialism because I know this is where it'd lead. I just felt like I should mention to her that I'm not just going to rot on the couch doing nothing, and that included bringing up the PSL. She did seem interested when I told her they did a lot of organizing in Minnesota.

  • I think she's thinking of bygone times when they were more closed off. I mentioned that they have opened up, to which she replied, "Just a little." I think there're too many brainworms, for me to help root out in the relatively short time I see her. I just needed to complain a little.

  • Yeah. She made some comments about how she wishes everything wasn't ruled by money, but even then she seems to be missing the big picture. I think she just doesn't have a lot of politics besides the vibes we get growing up and doesn't think that's a problem. I get that about democracy and it necessarily being proletarian rule, but so many people have this thought that socialism runs counter to democracy because of that same vibes-based education. I think I'd have to do a lot of agitation to change her mind, and I'm just seeing her once a month to help deal with my anxiety and depression.
