I’ve heard people like hasan explain this as her being young and the advisors on her campaign leading her towards that position, but that feels like a weak cop out to me because why does a self proclaimed socialist not recognize these awful foreign policy positions? I ended up reading the 2026 national defense strategy yesterday and it’s very embarrassing but something that stood out was that, despite the US states general hawkishness towards China and the Taiwan issue, there seems to be complete deference to an actual war with china. Of course these are just meaningless words that came from hegseths ChatGPT prompt, but there’s a vast contrast between the sections on the PRC and Iran for example.
It really feels like they don’t want that smoke and their best way forward is cooling down direct confrontational strategy and trying to use chinas pragmatism to their advantage when they fuck up because ultimately china just wants to trademaxxx.
