  • I ended up reading the 2026 national defense strategy yesterday and it’s very embarrassing but something that stood out was that, despite the US states general hawkishness towards China and the Taiwan issue, there seems to be complete deference to an actual war with china. Of course these are just meaningless words that came from hegseths ChatGPT prompt, but there’s a vast contrast between the sections on the PRC and Iran for example.

    It really feels like they don’t want that smoke and their best way forward is cooling down direct confrontational strategy and trying to use chinas pragmatism to their advantage when they fuck up because ultimately china just wants to trademaxxx.

    Edit: there’s a good bit in there where they say, “China has dumped vast amounts of money into the PLA the past couple years, often at the expense of domestic priorities”
