I mean....Firefox has gone from open source to source available. Other alternatives exist for Firefox that still hold the user as the customer and not as the product.
I've said this in other comments but bares repeating: we have a lot of people willing to fight for democracy, but very few people willing to die for it.
I won't share anything specific on what the group does (or doesn't do) but the biggest thing that anyone within the US can do right now is to get politically involved, especially if you are white and cis.
Find immigration attorneys and volunteer your time and talents with them
Find LGBT+ groups and be their ally
Volunteer at local homeless shelters, legal aid centers, etc.
You can do all of those things anonymously if you fear for your own safety. But get involved. I've done all of those things I listed above and I can tell you that the needs are huge. The more you make yourself known, the more people will trust you and you will be come part of the resistance.
I'm going to push back a bit here. Because people say a lot that there is no resistance and, to your point, there isn't any impactful resistance where it matters.
There is a world of difference between people who want to fight for what is right and people who are willing to die for what is right.
The reason we are here is because we have plenty of the former and very very little of the latter.
I do not say this lightly because I fear we are reaching a point that unless people are willing to risk their lives, we will lose our lives to fascism.
Thank you for the summary. I don't have a dog in the fight myself. (I use NewPipe) But I'm an FOSS advocate.
Stripping attribution....that's a GPL violation and that itself is enough to terminate the license. The dates of repo creation and commit dates should be enough to prove causality.
It's not like the fork couldn't have stood on its own. Like...wtf was the contributor thinking removing the attribution would do?
The problem is that she got arrested in the first place. So now she has to pay an attorney to represent her, defend her from the shit charges, then countersue the police and the government, appeal it as necessary. It might be years before she sees a penny of any lawsuit.
Meanwhile the officer continues to be an officer. Politicians involved are usually gone.
This is a situation where justice is denied not once, not twice, but many times over.
Asking someone out is about being aware of the situation and taking in social cues.
Retail workers are required to be nice to you. But some may go above and beyond. If they do, they may be hitting on you. (E.g. you ask for a small coffee and they give you a large. Or don't charge you for an extra whatever.)
The key is making sure you aren't a creep. Make sure the interaction is welcome and you aren't making their job harder.
It sounds like you read the room and opted to not shoot your shot. That's the way.
The level of groupthink that conservatives have is unparalleled. They constantly need to be reminded that they are the in group.
Look at all the Trump merch available to show their shibboleth. These people need others in their group to know that they are in their group.
It's why Fox News is so powerful. They get their talking points from there. What Trump hasn't realized yet is that Fox News can turn the tide on him very quickly if he's not careful.
I've met some cis women who exclusively shop in the men's department because the clothes are cheaper and sized sanely.
They don't care that their buttons are "on the wrong side" so long as they have pockets.
