"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."
I feel really bad for fruits and vegetables that are "ugly". It doesn't taste different and you could use them as juice or pickling. But regardless of what you use them for, farmers can't get the same price for "uglies" as they can with "beautiful" fruits and vegetables. The labor is the same and the overall costs to them are the same. They just look different.
So they have to jack up the prices on "pretty" and lower the price on "uglies".

You can always do something but its efficacy will vary. For example, spinning up a third party candidate a week before the election would be pointless.
If you look at my post history on Nov 5 has several posts on starting a third party. Right after the election would have been perfect. A lot of runway to find candidates, push them into the spotlight, have them lead the protests against Trump.
But we were understandably numb.
The second best time was after the inauguration. The third best time was after the first protest. The fourth best time was after the second protest.
We're about 8 months before the first primary. We could start a third party after the Labor Day protests.
With me being out of work, I've given serious thought about starting one here locally.
"Vote blue no matter who" is a direct result of FPTP voting. Until that's fixed, yeah keep voting blue...if there isn't a more progressive candidate.
We need a viable third party and the time to start one was November 6, 2024. We're past the point to make a dent in the midterms (assuming we have elections) but we have time to run progressive candidates.
I low key want Trump to explain slavery. We all know it's going to be dumb as fuck but I think we need to hear what's rattling in his fermented brain.
Have you ever heard Trump trying to explain anything that is plain wrong? The whole "inject bleach into your veins" thing? I want to know what he would say so that we can trace back where he's getting it from and who is pulling the puppet strings.
There was a quote about how Silicon Valley isn't a fortune teller betting on the future. It's a group of rich assholes that have decided what the future would look like and are pushing technology that will make that future a reality.
My concern is that Reddit can sell their profiling algorithm to other companies, who then can federate with Lemmy, mastodon, etc. to build profiles against users.
It's getting to the point where I may need to go back to cycling usernames every few years.
Actually, it's easy to explain religion when you realize there is no proof required. Only
blind obediencefaith.
