  • Thanks for your experience, it's easy to forget have stable debian really are and glorify nix as the one config to rule them all. Backports and lts kernels vs a four weeks update window are miles apart. I should go back and enjoy all my systemd services and sync/backup scripts instead.

But the urge still tickles, hopefully I can contain it inside a vm :)

  • I have the same problem with NixOS and Debian.

Currently every family computer and server in the house runs Debian 12 as a base. But the urge to convert everything to Nix one day still tickles me, who knows someday...

  • I have been running GOS for 5 years now on my pixel 4a. Planning to snag a new 9a during black friday sales. Hardware is fine, but I want security updates.

I run my banking through vanadium browser with non-foss 2fa app in a separate profile.

Facebook messenger works, but whatsapp nevers works properly for me. Trying to migrate friends and family to signal.

I mostly use LocalSend to transfer files between my computer and phone. Photos and folders are synced with my synology nas.

Summary: I'm happy with GOS, great battery life and no distracting ad-bloated apps. Can run most apps with google play in separated profiles.

  • That's why I hacked my robot and removed the phone home function. I used https://valetudo.cloud/ custom firmware for mine.

  • Lock him up!

  • Lock him up!

  • Gray hair and debian on old Dell Latitude, yep that's me.

  • Replying from my pixel 4a with grapheneOS. Phone just works, friendly pocketsize and with proper fingerprint reader.

  • Our family runs Debian + gnome on all our desktop clients. The kids love minecraft and java version works perfect for their needs. Wife needs Libreoffice, Brave and printing.

  • I'm on the same boat 44" tv, from ages ago. Connected to my linux reinstalled asus chromebox. Freedom baby yeah!

  • After several years I have landed on Debian with plain old gnome for my whole family. Boring as f***, but it just works. Currently untraining myself from opening my terminal on fresh boot to do pacman -Syu. Flatpacks have solved my need for updated software.

  • Exactly my idea aswell. Take your time to optimize and strip down your base install, then it's easy to just clone your base in virt-manager.
